Trixie
Trixie’s parents were pretty good magicians themselves. Trixie’s dad was The Incredible and Mighty Percival. He used black magic, the same road Sombra went down, but he merely used it for razzle-dazzle instead of enslaving kingdoms. Trixie’s mom acted as his show assistant but was fairly talented in her own right. Trixie is in fact almost as powerful as pre-coronation Twilight, but her magical scope is more limited than Twilight’s - her special talent is just tricks, show magic, performance stuff rather than powerful spells.
Flim Flam Brothers
Flim and Flam were likewise the twin sons of a working showpony mom and a lawyer dad who was frequently out of town on business. They were not very well-off while they were growing up in Manehatten. They had to share pretty much every single thing - clothes, baths, beds, toys, food, et cetera. They lived a life on the backstage of all the greatest plays and musicals in which their mom could manage to score roles. She taught them skills of how to catch an audience, sing and dance, and fix the machinery which often broke down in the theaters. They’re not related to the apple family, however. Flam is the older twin and generally more mature.
Gilda
Gilda’s parents were fairly typical griffons. Gilda’s dad was an ambassador to Equestria from the Griffon Republic, so their family lived in Cloudsdale. Gilda went to pony schools but never really got what it was all about, and when you add in her aggressive griffon chick personality, things get heated. She has a little sister named Grizelda; I think most of you would be aware of her.
She’s entirely self-made, and her ego is mostly justified. She’s had nopony but herself. She brags and boasts because it’s the best way for her to get noticed, because she has nopony else to vouch for her. She doesn’t miss her family, because she never knew them. She grew up in a Fillydelphia orphanage, and was captivated by the art of showmareship and bright lights at an early age.
Still trying to think up fanon for Gilda’s parent(s). Making them sorta jerks but not the stereotypical “Alcoholic n’ abusive” that gets played up so often for sympathy fanon for anyone.
You have an insane pony who as far as we know is in an institution as Trixie’s sister and the best background you can come up with is that she wanted to be noticed by her parents?
My god man. You could at least have taken a slightly more original path and claimed that she put on the over-the-top ham in order to ensure that her insane sister would actually her or something.
In my headcanon her parents are pegasi from Cloudsdale. Having a unicorn child forced them to live on the ground, and even though they loved her, Trixie could always tell that they were disappointed she wasn’t a flier like them. Thus she left home to travel the world and (aggressively) earn the respect of others as soon as she was able to.
I always figured she was from the same family as Archer and Pierce. Pierce’s talent has nothing to do with magic whatsoever, and Archer isn’t a unicorn. The parents are never around much, so Trixie compensates for the lack of magic in the family by taking it to 11.

your current filter.Logic achieved.
Grizelda… I know I’ve heard that before…

Well, at least you had a mother…or some sort of parents…
She… she told me I could do anything, that I could be Great and Powerful if I tried my hardest, and worked day and night.
The hardest truth of my life is knowing that she was wrong.

I have a fanon that they’re actually atypically nice, to ponies especially.
I suggest an upbringing like Doctor Evil’s.

But that’s just me.
