I think it’s a matter of commanding respect. It is possible to command respect without being a bully. It is what a true human rights activist does.
On that note, one of my favorite ships is Ember and Thorax. Ember has been teaching Thorax to assert himself as a leader. Thorax has been teaching her how to assert herself without being a bully. Both of them have very troubled pasts – both having shown the potential to turn evil upon feeling deeply betrayed. Thorax is like a male Fluttershy, and he is potentially unstable in the way she’s been. As Ember and Thorax struggle together, they have Smolder and Spike as great lights in their lives.
Think about this: if a rejected “good guy” turns into a misogynist psychotic dipshit just because some chick didn’t appeased his possesive affection/sex desires, was he “good” at all to begin with?
Indeed – infatuation is not the same as love. Men who really want to make friends with women appreciate that there are many fish in the sea – and that they must go fishing.
Thankfully, the real Spike has a great big heart – and seems to have overcome his old infatuation. His friendship with Gabby feels mutual in a way matched only by Thorax. I definitely ship Spike and Gabby. (In my fanon, I would ship Rarity with a reformed Blueblood.)

In that case, waiting until 40 to finally date may not be so bad after all. (I am nearly 33 as of this comment.) And in that case, if she is at least 21 (i.e., legally an adult in all respects), she is probably old enough for me, regardless of the age gap. And probably far more independent than I was at that age, so there would probably be no functional difference.

Depends on your definitions. What I think you mean by “good guy” is a guy who has bought into the bullshit and social pressure to be a “good guy”. And when they do everything “right” and get nothing in return, yeah they’ll get bitter. Same goes for women who buy into the bullshit of being a “career woman” and all the “you go girl” bullshit. Waiting until their late 30s or 40s to settle down and have children, only to find out no one wants them anymore and that they’re nearly or completely infertile. Women’s most fertile age is from around 18 - 25. And unsurprisingly, that’s the age that they are the most attractive to the opposite sex. And yup, they’re gonna be bitter too. Also, men’s sexual peak is actually 30-50, which adds to the confusion and frustration for younger guys when they’re rejected over and over again, that by the time they reach their sexual prime, they’ve already grown bitter. It really is a sad situation in the west.

These are my thots thoughts/theories:
I’m thinking it simply has to do with biology. Since women are ON AVERAGE physically weaker than men, so women need protection. Or at least their instincts tell them that they do. (The world isn’t as dangerous as before and we’re pretty much running on outdated hardware/software) So really, a bad boy is like an untamed beast. If you have a beast, nobody will fuck with you. So a bad boy could be seen as protection. Another reason would be that girls see a bad boy as a project. A challenge. And this is really because they’re just bored. It probably has a biological reason as well. Though I’m unsure what it is. Ironically, when they do actually change a bad boy to a good boy, they lose interest and move on. Most likely to another bad boy. All the while complaining to her “friend” (friendzoned chump) about all the bad things the bad boy does. Lel
Many folks need a boost in confidence, but it honestly doesn’t take much to remove the shyness of a situation.
Most folks who are shy in this situation have placed the person of their affection on a pedestal and feel that they are untouchable.
What is needed is to that they are a person just like you.
I can compare it to stage acting; many MANY people get stage fright, feeling like everyone is silently judging you. But the truth is if you step out on that stage, use a firm voice and ACT like you are in charge, you will be perceived to be in charge.
It’s not a cure all, but if you at least PRETEND to be brave for a few minutes, you’ll remove the fog from between yourself and your object of affection.
It works like this: Many ladies want a guy who is up front.
Mousy guys don’t attract much attention usually.
The same is the same for gals.
Mousy gals don’t attract much attention and guys tend not to notice a gal who doesn’t show interest in him or is at least up front about it.
As for guys/gals who throw themselves at the bad boys/gals constantly and get burned, that’s because many times the bad guy/gal is just being outspoken and that alone catches their interest.
Long story short: Stop being shy. If you are interested in someone, say it. If they reject you, don’t linger, move on.
