Derpy knows about gender dysphoria, she once got a folder for her son but literally dropped the subject/folder after she found out he just likes to dress as a filly, not be one.
Snails on the other hand…. Derpy and Glitter do NOT know he’s a colt so that is a disaster waiting to happen.
derpy will feel guilty either way for being clueless about what her own foal is dealing with, but if dinky waits until after, derpy won’t also be disappointed, and dinky can take part of the blame. if he/she tells her now, then derpy’ll have nopony to blame but herself. her anger at dinky for not telling her could save her from the feeling that she’s the only one who ever does anything wrong.
or maybe neither of us is drawing this comic so we don’t know what’ll happen.

Dinky is pretty much in a lose-lose situation now. Either he tells Derpy everything about his situation or tell it to her after latee and risk of making her feel guilty for pushing Dinky to it. No matter what, somepony will get hurt
Nah. It’s not good to “suck it up” and suffer just to make Derpy feel better. Because that just means she’ll feel worse about unknowingly pushing the dress on Dinky when the truth comes out. Better to just say “No” and explain why now.
it’d be easier to explain to her afterwards anyway, once you showed that you can suck it up, because if dinky tries to now, derpy might think she was about to horribly traumatise him/her or something.

I mean, you aren’t wrong. Not big into dresses either but would be willing to suck it up if Derpy was the one asking.
