Well, now that you said it, I can kinda see how your comments can be interpreted as a not a bad thing, but it was hard to see it that way without you saying it outright.
@Background Pony #3D50
I’m not saying as if it is a bad thing, just that MLP is focusing on different things, things you are talking about. And the show is making the community with similar focus. And if I didn’t wanted to be a part of this, I wouldn’t be here. Probably shouldn’t make my point so negatively-oriented. Maybe I wanted for somebrony to start defending the community.
@Background Pony #4901
Well, I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand your insistence on making a direct parallel between popularity/quality of a piece of fanart and popularity/quality of the entire show. Fanart being popular within the community and the show being popular “within the world” are two completely different frames of reference. People in MLP community are in this community because they are into cute and heartwarming things. The world in general is not like that. People around the world are into all sorts of different things. Cuteness is a much-much bigger factor in MLP community then it is in the world in general.
@Background Pony #3D50
Quality art is an exception, not the rule. Like you said, art quality is not the main factor, that’s because for MLP itself quality is not the main factor.
@Background Pony #4901
Also you just low key shat on every artist in this community, including those who are definitely drawing quality art. I don’t know if that was the intent, but that’s what happened.
@Background Pony #4901
Well, that’s going a bit too far. I think the show has a lot of merits beyond just cuteness. I’m not gonna argue about tastes and preferences, since that’s pointless, but for me FIM is special in a lot of ways besides just being cute.
@Zolder
One could argue that the whole MLP franchise is popular not because of its quality which is not that good, but because of its “cuteness”. For example, out of all animated TV series of the XXI century with at least 10K votes on IMDB, MLP FiM is on 73rd place out of 89. Any artist making art based on MLP is taking advantage of its “cuteness”. If you want quality, look elsewhere.
@Background Pony #3D50
exactly.. cute stuff is like porn but without the sexual aspect, lol
It gets a lot of upvotes and this is decent enough to where people like it
@Enmity1498
I don’t understand why this is so popular. There are a lot of cool artists who don’t get the attention they deserve.
That’s true. What I’ve learned after years on derpibooru is that art will be popular if it’s cute, heartwarming or funny, or if an artist frequently and consistently s new art. Quality of art or level of skill are secondary factors, which is sad, but true. (and I don’t even begin to understand how popularity of nsfw art work, it’s even less about quality)
And going back to this piece of art - it has a cute idea and the execution is “good enough” hence the upvotes.
@Zolder
I find the art to be of decent quality myself. If you have criticism to give, it’s best to give it constructively so the artist can use it to improve.
@Zolder
This is one mean spirited comment. With all due respect, this is still miles better than what I could achieve, and I actually love the sense of innocence shown here.
