Both are signs of trying to worm your way into a better position, an attempt to recover from an overextended statement. If it “only usually” holds true, why use such broad generalizations at all, knowing damn well that the person you’re telling this to has less experience with the term in question and will haphazardly paint the ones using said term with whatever brush you hand them? Unless… maybe you know exactly what you’re doing. I would challenge you to rise above being a divisionist.

Through learning comes growth and through growth comes progress. The mindset of “everyone (or even almost everyone) who calls someone an SJW is a bigot” is straight up not correct. Normies like me are tired of moral grandstanding by pretentious assholes (on either side) who have a complex for telling others what they think is right. If people wanted to be preached to, they wouldn’t go to social figures, they’d go to church. And I can say the following as an ex-Christian who survived the Fundamentalist years: your original wording sounds like a Fundamentalist who believes their holy book is a gift from God to tell mankind what is wrong and what is right. That is the reason Horseshoe Theory exists.

He’s kind of right. SJW’s are a real thing and people who speak up against them can’t just be discounted as a bunch of bigots like you said. If you don’t think toxic ‘activism’ exists, just look at dlazerous and his group who tried to blow this site up a few months back. They’re self righteous to the extreme and really are not good people no matter how much you may agree with their positions.

Usually it means some asshole who spouted racist/sexist/anti-LGBT crap got super offended at being called an asshole for it and started squealing about ~~SJWs~~ ruining everything, because they can’t be a bigoted asshole in public without facing backlash for it anymore. It’s a mostly meaningless buzzword that almost always says more about who said it than who they were saying it about.

Example. Lets say someone dislikes the all female ghostbusters 2016 remake. A normal person would shrug and say fine, people like what they like. Maybe there’d be a bit of debate but little to no acrimony. SJW would instead call that person a sexist bigot, pen either a whole essay on twitter or make a blog post about it and, if they’re a journalist, write a whole newspiece on how every person who dislikes this movie is an unapologetic misogynist who hates women and should be shunned by society. They, of course don’t do this wholly out of a sense of altruism or equal rights, they do it to both show all their friends and followers what a good person they are and to shame all those who don’t think just like them.

It’s usually disingenuous, as in, they do it for reasons less than altruistic, such as for the thrill of attacking someone, the satisfaction of exerting power over others or destroying them, because they want to feel superior to others or for prestige.
Eventually you’ll get petitions to change Goofy’s name. And Miss Piggy is fat shaming. And Dr Evil is locked into a negative socially constructed stereotype.

I never claimed myself to be a winner for this argument. I have no interest in indulging in poolitics, let alone whatever SJW is good or bad.
