Nope it’s the other way around, China was under Japanese rule, including Taiwan. And way before that, Japan had been influenced by Chinese culture already. :P
One more thing worth mention, Taiwan, Singapore, and even Japan and South Korea have more completely preserved Chinese culture than the mainland China.

The religion is part from India yes, Buddhism was introduced to China around the first century, but two civilizations were separate by Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau. But before and after Buddhism, there was barely any cultural influence between them.
We can both agree that Confucianism (started at B.C.500) was not influenced by India, right?
The common ancestors of China and India was separated about 70K to 50K years ago. Back then, there was no civilization on Earth, more like tribes. So, the two civilizations was not “from” each other, more like two parallel lines.
On the other hand, Japan, Korea and Vietnam have their origin, but they all adapt Chinese characters in their literature at the ancient time. Some of the characters are still in use in modern Japan. The traditional religions were heavily influenced by China too, most of them combined Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.
More the people came from China and established independence. What they brought with them they eventually codified into their own culture, regardless of the original version still existing. No different from any other country that has its roots elsewhere.
After all, China cribs a lot from India, and India is proven to be even older than China.
Actually, ramen came from China. The word is descended from Chinese lāmiàn (拉麵, “pulled noodles”), and the first ramen shop opened in Tokyo in 1910, staffed entirely by Cantonese cooks.

Adding on to @Wayneponeth, Japan has never come under foreign rule – not from China, not even from the Mongols. And believe me, they’ve tried.
