“Hey, Pinkie,” the bored cashier greeted as she ate up the last of the shop’s slightly-stale muffins from the night before. “What can I help you with on this slow Tuesday morning?”
While indeed it was a slow day, with only two other customers seated quietly to themselves, Pinkie was still as energized as ever. “First, we gotta celebrate your three-week anniversary of working at Sugarcube Corner.” She quickly pulled out her phone as she leaned over for a selfie. “Smile!”
Caught off guard, the cashier could only manage an awkward grin.
SNAP
“Uh, thanks. I guess,” the cashier chuckled. “It is the longest I’ve held down a job, actually.”
“Now to get down to business,” Pinkie said as she stuffed her phone into her hair. “I’d like to make an order for a dozen doughnuts, please!”
“Oh, right. The usual.” Rolling her eyes, the cashier looked around for her notepad. “Just gimme a sec.”
“Oh, don’t worry. I’ll keep it simple,” Pinkie assured. “I’m just gonna have two glazed doughnuts, two chocolate icings, one strawberry icing, one powdered sugar, one raspberry-filled, one creme-filled, one peanut-butter-filled, one cinnamon cruller, one cookies-n-creme, and one cheesecake. Oh, and if you can squeeze in an extra cake-batter doughnut and make the whole thing a baker’s dozen, I could throw in a little extra in the tip jar. What do you say?”
Finally finding her notepad, the cashier turned back to her customer as she clicked her pen. “Can you repeat all that?”
Couldn’t hurt to remind folks.
