The law makers probably didn’t understand a thing about suicide when they wrote these, they just wanted to take a “tough stance” against it. Though, it seems like it wasn’t until pretty recently that the general public started understanding how depression works. I’d guess that taboos were a powerful force that kept a lot of people in the dark about these things.

in 2019, in the US, 85 percent of women who had abortions were unmarried. This was in 2019, but massive demographic shifts to the side you are claiming are statistical impossibilities.
