The system as it used to be (and afaik still is) is images get nominated, each staffer can put 3? votes on others’ nominations (but not their own), and the winner gets queued up. The voting last three days while the previous winning image is featured.
And yes, multiple mods pull directly from the thread in Art for their nominations.
There’s always (or often) a delay between images being nominated, a nomination winning, and then it getting its turn to be featured. Except for special events or holidays, we really have little control over the timing of a feature being featured.
