I’ve never thought of MLP:FiM as “medival”, to be honest. I’ve always seen it as modern-day.
In fact, I have a headcanon on the timeline of each generation:
G1 & G2 - 1600-ish (Medieval era)
(human world is in the 60’s)
G3 - 1800-ish (Industrial Revolution era)
(human world would be in the 90’s)
G4 - 2000-ish (Modern Day)
(human world is also in the current era)
G5 - 2200-ish (Future)
(human world would only be about a decade in the future)
