1. MordeTwi was not “someone’s silly idea”; it was inspired by their interaction in Earthworm Zim - a suggestion by multiple people, not randomly invented on thin air by one guy.
  2. The pairing was never about “airplanes and shooting stars” or anything like that - that was a separate, overblown trend revolving around (iirc) a rejected submission for the MordeTwi fan club.
  3. This pairing is not a mere shitpost nor a crackship (in the common (mis)use of the word)*, but it is popularly treated as such nowadays.
  4. The pairing isn’t meritless, it had context and reasons why people shipped this (without a hint of satire).
  5. Some of you derpibooru s already knew about MordeTwi way before Airplanes. All I can say is: you guys had quite the grievances, which frankly was mostly misguided and uncalled for, especially when it’s about Cartuneslover16. ( that name? I’m sure you do.)

Actually, the ship originated from a fanfiction where Mordecai and Twilight are friends. The fic eventually spawned a fan group for MordeTwi because the ship just kept getting fan creations for it.
That “Airplanes” meme really obfuscated this history, that MordeTwi is now just some… thing that
“started out as some random crackship in the early days” or whatever.
