Due to being closer to their ages and could fit in with the “next generation”.
i wish these two interacted more in the show. the only other dragons that spike has interacted with was a feral dragon back in season 1 garble in the migration ep and ember who was older them him. also that fatass dragon that pretended to be his father. smolder was one of the closet to his age that he could talk too
