This picture is so fun and lively. It seems to me that the sea pony is having some fun at the kirin’s expense. I would like to know the story of what is going on from both characters’ views.

The hook seems to be in the fin on her left ear. The line has been cut, so it looks like she knew it was there and made sure it would not be dangerous to her if she bit into the carrot.
The hook in the ear is actually part of the character’s design, a sort of makeshift earring with humorous irony
