It always seemed strange to me that the Crystal Empire’s native population consisted only of earth ponies. Can other pony races not be crystal ponies?

Fair enough — after all, we have ponies like Fluttershy and Derpy Hooves, who are also not very accustomed to flying despite being natural-born pegasus ponies.

She spends most of her days as a Princess in a kingdom designed for mostly earth ponies with a unicorn husband. Makes sense she doesn’t fly all that often on the day to day.
