I’ve always hated the fanon idea of Celestia having a fully pink mane when she was younger, since it was based on only the opening sequence in the series premiere, which had plenty of other design inconsistencies with Celestia and Luna (Like their wings being coloured, them being the same height, etc.)
We’ve seen how Celestia looks in the past in the show when we see a flashback of her banishing Nightmare Moon, and her mane is the same colour it’s always been. The same is shown in the comics, where it’s also shown she doesn’t have wavy hair when she’s younger. The Gameloft game even adapted this design.
I don’t have a problem with people giving Celestia pink hair, just when they refuse to acknowledge it’s a fanon idea. If it’s art for an AU/a redesign of Celestia, then anything goes, but for art that shows her as close to canon as possible, it’s always seemed weird when people act like the pink hair thing is canon.
I always felt that the discrepancy in hair color was related to what part of adolescence they were in–like, solid-pink was equivalent to childhood, pink/cyan gradient equivalent to their late teens, roughly. I wondering about the coloring briefly, then accepting this as the most likely scenario. It’s been awhile since I watched the show and I can’t if my idea stands up to scrutiny tho, so I’ll keep an eye out when I rewatch! Thanks for pointing it out–I didn’t even know there was a controversy

Yeah, I also lean towards both of them having solid pastel hair colors in their youth, but OP’s right that people who insist on it as being canon are annoying.
I agree 1,000,000%.
I try not to voice negative opinions online; it usually adds nothing constructive to the conversation. But man does it piss me off seeing so many people do this sort of thing. And I don’t just mean with Celestia’s hair.
It makes me so frustrated when someone takes their interpretation of something and treat it as fact. Some people come up with outlandish, completely-out-of-left-field assumptions of things and convince themselves it’s true, and then try to convince others that it’s true. Oftentimes with characters in fictional stories, but sometimes with people in real life. It’s disgusting. It’s straight up misinformation. It has no place in the world. It’s a poison.
They probably just prefer it, it’s not that deep. I personally don’t care what canon says her hair was as a filly, looks better to me with a solid pink to match Luna’s solid blue. People don’t need to specifically label their art saying “This is not canon” they can just draw whatever, their art doesn’t change official media.
Personally I just always felt they didn’t bother to change her hair color as a filly as they didn’t wanna confuse viewers or make a whole new design for something almost never seen.
Pretty much my thoughts.
If you just wanna use it as a unique design element, more power to you. But it’s become one of those oft repeated fanon ideas that gets ed around so much people just assume it’s actual canon. I still the complaining when G5 showed her with her regular hair color as a filly!
TBF a lot of those depictions were published before we had more flashbacks to the princesses’ lives. The banishment flashback didn’t come out til Season 4, I don’t think there’s evidence against pink mane Celestia before then.
Lmao I wanted to post an image from an IDW comic where young Celestia appears with her current, but not ethereal, mane 😭 but you’re right, I always thought her mane was pink but it’s multicolored
And if you’re too “negative” (read: go against popular fanon in any way) in the comments, you’ll get banned, too.

No side is truly absolutely correct and/or wrong. The only thing wrong is forcing others to agree with you deliberate or not.

your current filter.Even g5 didn’t do the pink thing showing them as fillies in a flashback.
