Applejack removed her Stetson from her head and wiped the sweat from her brow as she made her way through the orchard.
This couldn’t be right, it was only late March and Winter Wrap Up had concluded just a week ago, but now the earth pony found herself wearing Daisy Dukes and a baby doll t-shirt just to stay cool. This wasn’t right and AJ knew who to take it up with.
AJ was familiar with where in her family’s orchard her friend Rainbow Dash liked to take her afternoon nap. More importantly she knew the pegasus pony’s favorite tree to sleep in, so the yellow-orange was not surprised to hear the sound of snoring as she walked up to a particular tree. Coming to a stop beneath its limbs the earth pony called out.
“Rainbow Dash! Rainbow Dash! Wake yer butt up! I’ve gotta bone ta pick with ya!”
The snores continued. AJ frowned and squinted up into the limbs and newly sprouted leaves. Finally she spied her friend sleeping on a limb. The earth pony bent down and picked up an earth clod with her heavy work gloves. Probably. Her family had been out spreading in the manure in the orchard, but this was most likely an earth clod.
Probably.
Applejack wound up and hurdled the projectile at her blue and prismatic target. The earth pony was rewarded by direct hit in the left shoulder as the projectile splattered with a soft Splut sound.
Okay maybe that wasn’t a dirt clod. Thought the earth pony. However her direct hit did rouse Rainbow Dash from her slumber.
“[](https://picarto.tv/baronengel)AJ! What the hay! Why did ya do that! Eewww!” The pegasus shook her left arm causing the bulk of it to fall off!
“Let me ask ya this Rainbow Dash! Wut were ya weather ponies thinkin’ when ya decided ta do this ta ponies with no warnin’?!”
The pegasus floated down to her friend on the ground. The mare looked at her left arm resumed shaking it. “AJ that was gross! What has gotten you all worked up?”
AJ raised her arms to the sky. “The temperatures RD! Sun and moon! What’s up with ya weather ponies broilin’ us?! We normally don’t git weather like this fer another 2 months! What gives?”
Dash glared at her longtime friend. “It wasn’t my idea, but Cloudsdale sent out an order telling us we had to dump some excess energy from the system right now, or else it would snowball and down the road it would’ve gotten even worse around June. So we’re doing a few bad days now to avoid weeks of miserable later. Besides this was no surprise! We’ve been running alerts in the Ponyville Courier warning ponies for the last week. “
AJ crossed her arms. “Yeah that’s true, but I don’t like it, and I bet nopony does!”
RD looked at her friend’s outfit and grinned. “Oh, I bet Autumn Blaze likes seeing you wear that outfit!”
Applejack’s cheeks suddenly became a bit redder. “Well. Yeah, um she did give me a big ol’ smile this morning.” She sighed and smile spread across her face. “So how long do we have ta put up with this?”
“AJ it’ll be over in 48 hours.” She scowled at her friend. “Happy?”
The earth pony scuffed the dirt with a hoof. “Yeah I guess so. Well I should see if Autumn needs help with making lunch.” She then turned around walked away with a smile on her face.
This is one of the pieces I started during recent Springtime themed Picarto stream, and this story is what popped into my head as I was finishing it up later in my studio.
