I think I under appreciated just how important of a season ending this was for Twilight Sparkle. Starlight Glimmer is the FIRST major villain defeat that didn’t require the elements of harmony or other magical powers, a pure heart to heart talk and acceptance of Starlight despite all she has done to Twilight and Spike. She used all that she has learned from her own friends; expressing kindness by lending out a hoof to Starlight, and honesty by saying that never having friends leads down a dark and depressing path like Twilight herself was on a road to before Celestia sent her on that mission to Ponyville. Twilight quite literally turned an enemy to her friend out to Starlight, which is the ultimate way to defeat a villain in a show with FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC as the tagline.
Purely in my opinion, but this ending was when Twilight should’ve gotten her wings. Season 3’s ending could crown her as the Princess of Friendship as a unicorn, just having the title now. It’s a beat to death discussion about Magical Mystery Cure, but I cannot stop thinking about how amazing a progression it would’ve been for Twilight to earn her wings by making Starlight go from an enemy to friend as shining proof that she deserves her title and Alicorn form
Astounding how every single character here can be named and has generated some form of fan engagement in a show meant for little girls to buy toys of them
The only other show I can think of at the top of my head with such a stadium-full cast of characters is adventure time
