The whole reason this dividing the fandom nonsense even happened in the first place is because bronies (often intentionally) separated themselves from the established fandom MLP already had by way of belittling what had come before and raising G4 as the only thing MLP that mattered. Like, famously so - there are still examples of it all over this site’s earlier s. It’s also not really news that a lot of bronies did the same thing with material after G4 as they did with material before it. So it’s rather silly to push people in the same larger fandom away and then act like this when they continue to self-separate.
@Chopsticks
I this claim vividly as it was weaponised by the Brony haters over and over. None of them could even say which con it happened at, and it was made up. Was it based on real events? Yes. But these people who spread that fake story are exactly the same people who will send death threats to Nicholas Kole. You seem to have accepted those scumbags as part of your fandom, but they are not part of mine. I don’t know any other group that has done more to separate the abusive and toxic parts of their fandom better than bronies have done. We’ve had toxic people manage to get their OC into the official comics, we’ve had convention creators steal donation money, and we’ve had someone tell a news outlet that we’re a group of nazis. And we recovered from that and told those people and their ers that they are not welcome. You can’t ban someone from a fandom, because you can’t make bad people stop liking MLP. But none of these people you see on Twitter are welcome here, and I’m sure they’re banned in most other places too. We don’t have to nor should we accept and claim them just because they are fans of the show. We’re a community that is constantly helping new artists learn to better their skills and enjoy art. We’re a community that helps people ignore bullies and have more comion for themselves. This community is everything you’d expect after watching the show. But like MLP has it’s Chrysalis and Tirek, we have our Twitter s. No-one would say those two are part of the mane 6 right? So why are you claiming unity with the scumbags of this fandom?
For more info on the convention incident:
Several actual attendees have confirmed no-one booed Misty’s VA. It happened at opening ceremonies, but before she was introduced and called on stage. The mention of G5 was meant as a transition to bring her up, but no-one knew that. The booing was at no point ever directed to her. She was never on-stage when people booed the mention of G5. The drama about it started a month after the convention and was spread by people who were never even there. These shit-stirrers didn’t even know this happened at Czequestria. The lack of evidence made it hard to debunk this rumor, but the fact people like you trusted it completely with even less evidence is really the saddest part. You gotta spend less time on Twitter. We have always been better than this.
Heck, don’t forget these people tried to separate themselves from bronies by calling themselves the G5 fandom. And god do I hope we don’t have a repeat with a G6 fandom. Regardless of show quality, I really hope anti-G4 nonsense can be nipped in the bud.
@Minus
At a con, at the risk of being thrown out, bronies at a convention actively booed when Misty’s voice actress was introduced as a VIP guest. That was brazenly in-person, imagine what they’d do hiding behind the Internet.
And unfortunately, Twitter/X brony presence is more than 10x larger than Derpibooru. Even if an overwhelming majority of us would condemn such actions, emotionally out-of-control fans are still some of the loudest and proactive where MLP staff have the largest social media presence.
It’s not random anti-brony trolls ignorant of specifics sending insults and threats full of commentary with acute knowledge about the shows.
Call them what you will, or try as “we” might distance ourselves from “them”, we’re a fandom of teens/adults with a toxic organ in our body just like any other major fandom, except about a show that specifically teaches little kids the fundamentals being nice and mindful.
Let’s not forget that most people that worked on G5 were huge fans who had great ideas, that were ignored and had to watch Hasbro force bad decision changes on their work over and over. I don’t think anyone suffers more than these creatives when the show is bad. @Chopsticks
And let’s not forget that sending death threats is not a Brony thing to do. It’s a Twitter thing to do. Of course he will be sent death threats, but not from anyone here.
@Chopsticks
Agreed. He’s just a person doing a job he was paid to do. I’m personally not fully sure of Generation 6 just yet, but we have time before it releases so I’ll be cautiously optimistic ‘till it releases and then I’ll form a full opinion
I’m going to be so pissed off if an army of immature bronies flood his indox with hate mail and threats. He’s just the hired concept artist, not the producer in charge of direction.
Indeed
The irony must be lost on him
Indeed.
