A little meme contribution for the Mare Fair 2026, original work. I had the idea of the chess “Mate” pun for a while, and I decided to use Matinee for that mainly because her name has the “Mat” prefix. Not the funniest pun, but I like how cute she turned out 😸

Yeah, yeah, I think at least 2 or 3 people told me they saw an H. Well, at least, it’s not directly my fault in mismarecommunication on the image for once 😄. And yeah, I thought it was a popular chess meme pun, but it looks like it’s not, lol, because I didn’t find anything like this. ChatGPT brings up some mention of this pun in a 5mo old deleted Reddit post, and that’s pretty much it. I think the potential of this pun is undermareused!
The pun is that “Mate” is the winning move in chess, where you put the enemy King piece under a threat of attack on the next move, and the enemy has no legal move that can prevent that attack on the next move. The word “mate” also means animal s*x. 😳
