She is the oldest child of Luna and Sombra, that being said, she was held to a lot of expectations. From a young age, she was trained to use her magic and taught proper manners by royal tutors. Luna and Sombra wanted her to have choices of what she wanted to be and become, but she needed to be trained to act like royalty. Her parents would not force her to take up the crown if she did not want it.
But Luna and Sombra did have to worry about their daughter not wanting the crown or resenting them for the training she was put through. After all her parents never forced her to be perfect all the time, but it was important that she at the very least learned proper manners. Moonlight never resented her parents for putting her through royal training or magic school. She just wished she was able to hang out with more normal ponies. Everypony in Canterlot wanted to get close to her because of her status or wanted gossip of the goings-on in the castle.
She started visiting Ponyville more and more, over the years to get a breath of normality that she missed out on. On one of her first visits, she got lost and found her way into an apple farm. Where she met her first real friend Apple Fritter and her family. Her family was more than welcoming and it helped that she was familiar with Apple Fritter’s mother AppleJack. Moonlight finally got to experience a bit of normal life outside of the castle and royal duties.
Baby: She was a handful as a baby. Which mellowed out as time went on.
Child: She had just got her cutie maker at roughly 9. She was trying to move the moon like her mom and well instead of really moving it she made it really bright.
Teen: Her hair started to transform during this period.
Young Adult: This is her reaction to her little sister getting her cutie mark.
Adult: She finally completed the challenges that were set for her from when she became a teenager to become an alicorn. She ha to earn her title.
