Well, you can’t really expect somepony to perfectly control her magic flow from the start. She’ll probably do some accidental spellcasting before she gets the hang of it.

As far as I observed, it the color of the magic needs to be harmonious with the other color of the pony, which is I think the main restraint. Using the eye color or any color of the cutie mark is a good choice, but not an absolute must.

I used to say that all the time, but then a lot of people started to go on and on about how the color of the cutie mark had to do with I but to me it seem both are right as a lot have the color of there eyes as a color in their cutie mark.
