I think “autocannon” is defined as an automatic weapon that is high enough caliber to fire explosive shells. So I guess it’s both?
Although from what I’ve seen on Navy and Coast Guard factfile websites, they just refer to it as a “machine gun.” I think that makes it sound more mundane than it really is.
