Heh, I like how everyone despises Spike x CMC ships just because “they haven’t interacted that much in the show”.
 
Shippings are from the fans to the fans, for example, Appledash or Flutterdash won’t be canon because the executives won’t show (most likely) a lesbian pairing on “a show for little girls”.
 
Just relax, guys. Shipping isn’t supposed to be canon to be accepted. Besides, the fans have some crazy ideas, such as:  
-Rarity x Tom  
-Spitfire x Shining Armor  
-Spike x Cadence (Who is married)  
And the rarest of them all:  
-Rainbow Dash x Kitchen sink (Yes, it IS real)

Some people like them because they look good together and that’s perfectly fine as well. Rarity doesn’t have to be thrown into the mix for reasoning. Some people might simply not like AB as much as Sweetie, and Scoots often receives the same treatment as RD about her being into fillies. Who knows. The point is for a lot of people, Spike fits the best with Sweetie out of the 3 CMC. Sweetie’s more feminine personality fitting with Spike’s ideal of being like a noble knight in shining armor may be a factor as well. Possibly. Them being picked over other ponies does stem from being closer to his age though. But its perfectly normal to want to pair up characters of similar age.
 
And while its not much, them dancing together (out of many other characters) is already more than what half of this show’s shippings have going for themselves. I believe in the comics there’s also a scene where Sweetie was shown to sleep with a Spike plushie, which can be interpreted the same way as Spike having a Rarity plushie (ie maybe having a secret crush on him). There will always be people who like or dislike certain pairings, and will make up excuses to or deny them, but when there are small things, small as they are, its understandable when people want to use them to build their ships. Like I said, there are at least small foundations for this one.

the soarin/aj ship is way more legit than spike/belle. he really likes her pie.
 
that said, all three have interacted with spike in the show, unless you skipped may the best pet win.
 
and while it’s not depicted, it’s heavily implied that spike spends a lot of time with rarity, and that sweetie belle spends a lot of time with rarity. there’s conjecture like “maybe scootaloo randomly crashes into spike while taking flying lessons” and then there’s conjecture like “if they spend a lot of time around each other, maybe spike and sweetie belle have a chance to become affectionate.” it’s not fair to say it’s all equally wrong.

And that’s fine, but I still ask when I don’t understand. I mean, as much as I dislike RariPants as a ship, I can at least understand where it comes from. Whenever someone claims SpikeBelle without Sweetie simply being an Age Appropriate Rarity, there doesn’t tend to be a whole lot of evidence. Mountains of conjecture, sure, and if that is what you want to write on, go for it. That’s the glory of fan works.

Why? They’ve never interacted in the show, aside from a still picture from ACW Part 2. This is like the Soarin/AJ ship. Some ships have small legs to stand on, these don’t have ANY.

Or… that he isn’t totally incapable of talking to her, though he is still attracted for her. If anything, his love has matured, since real life love doesn’t linger in that ‘befuddled’ state for very long at all.

actually, what we have is the younger person having a crush on the older person cliché.  
what’s been done in shows for years now, and it’s getting old.
 
I’m just happy Spike’s crush on Rarity seems to be ing. if the lack of interest he seems to have towards her, compared to the first three seasons is anything to go by.

PipBloom is fairly common, though there is little basis for it.
