I believe she was 10-11 so the gap is actually bigger. The reason why people see her as his mom is because she has responsibities siblings usually don’t have. She makes sure he sleeps, don’t eat too much ice cream, she gives him baths and celebrates HWE with him. There is no other adult present, just her. Also, take it easy…

I think there are enough canon proofs that show he still feels the same for her in fact I think he’s even developed deeper feelings along the series so I think they’re anything but fading.

Well I think the same, I see spike and Twi like sis and bro. But still you don’t need to fret that much about it. I just fret when see them romantically involved as it’s like incest for me. But yeah still some people like them as pairing and there’s nothing you can do to take them out the dark side.

I prefer Celestia being Spike’s mom, then Twilight, it just makes more sense.

every time someone says Twilight is Spike’s mom, it makes the pit of my stomach turn.  
maybe it’s because there’s such a small age gap between the two. I mean how old was Twilight when she hatched Spike, five, eight. sorry, but you can’t tell me someone being a parent before there even ten, isn’t somewhat wrong and a bit creepy.
 
also, I have never seen a mother and son relationship between these two on the show. close friends, maybe brother and sister like at times. but never mother and son.  
also last time I checked parents don’t make their child their personal assistant.
