I actually did miss the chairiel thing. And now that I think about it, Asgore would’ve named Asriel “Kid” if he’d been the one to pick a name.

Did you entirely miss the “Chairiel” thing? Asgore gives banal names, not combined ones.
I would also really like a quote from game stating Asgore was the one to name Asriel, because all I is Asgore being repeatedly implied to be really bad at names, not that he named Asriel.

Wow did you ever completely miss how the naming stuff worked in the game.
Asgore is the one who named “Home” and “New Home” and sucks at names, so is implied that he named their kid a mashup of their own names because of being the “giver of lame names” guy.

Dis Cord the Cord and Aslest Dreemurr, if keeping with the naming theme (Asgore is banal, Toriel does portmanteaus, Asriel was named by Toriel and does very kid names).
