Fortunately, this one appears to be a prickly pear, which is not so bad as they go. No barbs, no papery sheaths that detach in the wound, but lots of nasty tiny microspines in addition to the big ones.

I vaguely hearing somewhere that some species of cacti have little reverse barbs on them, making it even harder to remove them. Either way, that has to hurt. DX
