“The Cutie Map” finished in… 6th place. Out of 5 contestants. It was rated below “No Award”, i.e. considered completely undeserving of even being considered for an award.
Watching the hugos burn down is the best. Heard so many people say things like “wait, the hugo is just a bullshit thing that voted on by a bunch of people who go to a convention? I thought it… actually meant something. Huh.”
Space Raptor Butt Invasion will be the most deserving hugo-winner in years.
The tl;dr recap: The Puppies are still there but they lost heavily and changes are incoming.
The still-short recap:
1.) Last year was the first year they had a serious influence on the nominations, but the full body of voters essentially told them to take a hike, voting non-Puppy candidates to a win in any category where there was one, and to give No Award rather than any award in categories the Puppy slate had swept. The sole exception was Guardians of the Galaxy, which no one seriously argues was nominated or won because of Puppies.
2.) This year they have dominated several categories again, but in an effort to take hostages, forcing voters to choose between voting for Puppy nominees or No-Awarding good works, they nominated several works which had little or nothing to do with their political claim (“conservative works written by white males get shafted”) and were instead likely to be nominated anyway. The general consensus is this means they lost: a good-quality work can get a win or not on its own merits, and no one will take seriously any claim that Puppy voting got it there or not.
3.) For next year there is a rules change in the works for nominees. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s supposed to put a stop to the whole mess.
So in the end, the Puppies’ whole argument – that politically-motivated cliques can influence nominees and winners – has basically failed! Thanks to Noah Ward, the most organized movement in the history of the Hugos has been responsible for exactly zero Hugos for which they could plausibly claim responsibility.
Ehhhh honestly I’d think Crusaders of the Lost Mark should take its place but honestly they’re going against Heaven Sent. They’re going to automatically lose for that alone.
@mathprofbrony
I’ve used the older Hugo awards as a sort of reader’s guide; just seems like in last couple decades the tenor of the awards has shifted, and I don’t find myself enjoying the stuff that won, and reading about the behind the scenes cliques, etc (like the puppy slate) indicates it’s affecting what wins or gets nominated, instead of the quality of writing being the factor. I think that’s the same with all awards; even the Man Booker prize is apparently a high school level popularity contest at times, judging by some memoirs I’ve read.
Glad I guessed wrong. If you don’t like awards (or political dramas around them), I suppose that’s understandable. Many of my friends do find the Hugos to be a good recommendation for a book or author, though.

No, I hate this sort of thing, either side of the coin, and the puppy slate was a childish thing to do. Note in my comment I said “f a white person wins, it’s racist, if a minority writer or woman wins, it’s PC bullshit.” Either way, some group is going to get upset and call foul. So I just go do something more better than pay attention to the circus.
And How Green Was My Valley beat Citizen Kane.
The conclusion is that you’re butthurt?

You’re free to draw your own conclusions.

Doesn’t make your statement any more valid.
@Ichijoe
Sorry, I got this confused with the Cutie Remark. The Cutie Map was great.
That too!
Their fanbase doesn’t have enough epic trolls who’d vote for it with the Iron Hoof of a Sun Godess I guess.
Because you’re not the approval committee? I dunno, dude.

Nope, it’s still petulant children.

Thank God Cutie Map wasn’t on either the Sad or Rabid puppies’ lists.Ugh. Guess I was looking at the 2015 lists. The Cutie Map is on both of their lists. How disappointing.
Edited because: Factual error.
Did we watch the same show? ‘Cause I don’t think we saw the same show.
