Oh, I’ll agree that Twilight came off even worse in the episode, to the point that I can’t argue against all the critics saying she shouldn’t be the princess of friendship anymore. And hey, being a jerkass might elevate Celestia’s popularity in the fandom almost to Luna’s level.

sorry, but when you’ve fucked up as hard as twilight did this episode (which is the part people should really be calling OOC imo, not tia), then yes, still acting nice and happy would be sugar coating it. Like this is Lesson Zero levels of twilight screwing up. Tia let that slide because she was still just learning back then, but she’s a princess now. She should know better.

Well equal or not, there is still a standard of civility when dealing with frustration with others,especially “equals”. If her behavior was mearly showing her true feelings to Twiligth without the mask of princessness “sugar coating” it then why act so petty with guest (doodles question)as well? Is her whole facade of calmness a lie?
Sure she was stressed and the question was gruff and somewhat personal but at an apparent semi-formal gathering,is it not rude for a head of state to just sigh at another’s question. It just seems petty for a charcter built up with such formalness and motherness to just respond with so much negativity towards her friend and subjects.
I know you dont have all the answers nor do I,why the writers wrote her like that, but don’t say you expected Celestia to act like that in an official episode.

I think that’s part of the whole point: she’s no longer twilight’s mentor. Twilight is a princess now, she’s celestia’s equal in status.
and for her to have to put up with stuff Twilight would have tried pulling back in season one? damn right her patience has reached it’s limits!

I disagree with calling the writers “incompetent”, but it’s not that they’re just showing another side of Celestia, it’s that she’s being portrayed here as virtually the opposite of the patient, understanding mentor that she’s been established as over the past 5 seasons. It’d be like showing Twilight as disdaining books in favor of hearsay from some pony she barely knows.
Yeah, she seems pretty aloof in this season so far.
I don’t know if it’s in on purpose, incompetence from the writers, or they genuinely have no idea what to do with her.
Oh, Jesus Christ. It can’t be that a character could possibly have any moods or emotions beyond a single trait, can it? Nope, gots to be those stupid incompetent writers!
I somehow feel Celestia probably would have an entirely different reaction had Twilight not been overly ambitious with her plans. I think it’s different when one is first learning about friendship, and maybe Celestia expected Twilight to have prepared a little better.

Celestia- seriously twilight, i am a thousand years old. I have don’t with corrupt nobles, two faced trade brokers, and lawyers for ten lifetimes. Unless you have a changeling invasion and a wedding going on at the same time, you ahve to try harder than that.

we’ve seen her motherly before. didn’t get an aloof feeling here. and she was talking with twilight in the gauntlet episode.
Think that celestia was simply not buying one wordd of what twilight was saying and was waiting for her to spill the beans. And we she left she was just letting twilight deal with it…….
So she was partly annoyed that twilight was lying to her, and partly annoyed cause she was stuck there for so long XP

I guess because Twilight is now Luna and Celestia’s equals they seem to act without fronts…or being more candid?
