Assuming genetics works similarly in Equestria to in our universe, Unicorn-ism and Pegasus-ism seem to be recessive (as Earth ponies can have unicorn and pegasus children), which would mean that a Pegasus or Unicorn couple could only have a child who is also a pegasus or unicorn (respectively). We don’t know of any canonical mixed-race couples with children (apart from Shining Armor and Cadance, which is an exception because Cadance is an alicorn), so we can’t actually work out if this is the case.

Not likely. Fluttershy’s family appears to consist of Pegasi, and the spa pony is clearly a Unicorn. Then again, the Cake Twins were born from Cup Cake, and she’s an Earth Pony; so what do I know?
