More people need to read the Book of 1,001 Nights, specifically the Voyages of Sinbad.
Yeah, the Harryhausen Skeletons have been tributed and alluded to and referenced and parodied to heck and back, but really, read the source materiel.
Also, Aladdin took place in CHINA! And there were two genies, one of the lamp and one from the magic ring, and neither of them were restricted to just 3 wishes. “Open sesame” came from a totally different story (Ali Baba, which was a pretty gruesome tale and not for kids), and it’s surprising most people don’t connect Kings Quest VI with the original Prince of Persia, both of which were heavy influences for the original Tomb Raider.
At first I thought the ‘random’ story about a rock and a bird might’ve been pulled from one of the G1 My Little Pony ’n Friends episodes.
But my mind comes up blank.
Not an entirely strange line of thought, considering the G1 holdouts underground in this comic series.

Unfortunately, it is indeed the drawback of trying to introduce brief character appearances en masse, and the vast majority of people would be unwilling to pay now but wait a month’s time for their character to appear. The tricky part is giving them substance, as it’s a rule of media that you don’t allow a character to promote their own significance to the audience if they aren’t slated to return later. There are rare exceptions to this, such as in “slice of life” formats, but for those cases there is also a unique tone.
Pencils is trying to balance that against the unexpectedly high level of contributions he’s received, and is understandably not comfortable with having the character of someone who gave him upwards of $100 just quietly wave at the cast from behind a counter as they shop.
Finding a middle ground can be awkward to readers that have become accustomed to a certain flow in the story, but my suggestion is to try focusing less on the disruption, and more on the good cause behind it. While yes, the artist is indeed spending on it himself, the very real alternative is Pencils receiving a doctor’s notice to cease working on the freely-provided comic that everyone at least agrees on enjoying so far, or dramatically cut back on its release.
Love and tolerance, everypony. It’s not just about grinning and bearing it, but looking for the positive side.
Regardless of whether the characters are community OC’s or characters just created for the comic, it does make the writing feel a bit chaotic. The last half dozen pages or so have just been a constant stream of new characters added to a story with an already exceptionally large cast, and at least from first impressions it feels (to me and seemingly a number of other people in the comments) like most of those characters are fairly tangential to the plot as a whole. This may not be the correct literary term (and I apologize if it’s not), but it seems like the pacing of the story has been off lately whereas Pencil’s writing had previously been much tighter.
Question: if the mane6, Spike, and the princesses are all swanning about the rock farm and nearby locales, who’s taking care of things at Ponyville and Canterlot?

ITs dure that this sudfen influx of NEW CHARACTER get a bit otherwhelming. ESp since they all have flashy colors in contrast to EVERYONE (esp RD or Twi) before.
I suppose theres a reason for the new coloring but it REALLY make them stands out.
I hope we have some transition before the rest of the ocs. BUt I love this comic too much to really whine at a few weird pages.
