I’m sorry, but we’re not going to reach a accord with this. I don’t understand how you can look at what happened in the show and the movies and conclude it was all the victims’ fault. And to prove that, you have to go directly against what was explained on-screen. I could argue against what you wrote, but… it won’t change your mind anyway.

Again, sorry, but this discussion has become pointless. I’m dropping out. If you want to think Shining and Flash are horrible people, have fun.
@Starswirl
You seem to disregard the important word “want”, in that sentence, in favor of the irrelevant “make”. The “to make them want” part doesn’t mean:“Force them do what we want, no matter what they want.”
It means:“Put a desire into them, that most would do everything for.”
The fighting is what they were ready to do for this and is the normal result, because that’s how people are. Ready to harm others, to get what they want. Go as far as they can allow themself to go, which inreases exponentially, with how much they want it. The Dazzlings were expecting the Rainbooms to be fighting, at first. They didn’t fight because the magic stopped the effect, but becuase the magic is friendship. You know. The reason why the show is called the way it is.
Their magic is not acting as selfishly as most would normally. And you can see it in the others too. The school populace might be fighting between each other, but there are still groups. Only the strongest bonds hold and Flash didn’t go directly on the offensive against her, despite it being after the Dazzlings sang in the cafeteria. He reacted later, after they tryed to blast the Dazzlings and they used words in retaliation. He cares less for her, than to win.
The whole point of the movie and the show in general was, that the power to stop horrible things is from happening, is inside people. Not something palpable or removeable. It’s a concept taken from magical girls anime and to a lesser extend from other. From the first beginning of Sailor Moon, the helping powerful creatures and magic were a shortcut, helpful and useful. But never enough on it’s own.
It’s in accordance of what is said in the lines you quoted. Not opposite.
And if I were wrong, the Rainbooms wouldn’t have fought. Because, again. The negative part is also inside and they decided to act on it. Which brings us to my next answer.

@darknessRising24
“Once again, you’re simply using biased opinions instead of logic.“There you go, using baseless claims again. Where exactly are those opinions? Come on, point them out if they exist.
Let’s see. It would’ve? Did he have a reason before? It’safter there were things at stake, real or fake, that he decided to act like that. The Dazzlings provided those stakes and he promtly impaled himself upon them, he decided it’s worth doing what he did, over the perceived stakes. His choice, his fault.
But hey, at least you didn’t bring up a scene that was proving my point.
Oh, wait. You did.
It did start happening that easily, at that scene. The first begginings of the Rainboom fight. The very first cracks.
It might have taken longer without their interference, but it was already starting. In addition, it already happened once in the first movie.

Your example doesn’t work, they gave them a personal performance, after a larger snack than normal. They even had to sing again, when they asked them to let the Rainbooms win. There is also no prove that the effect was any more severe than highened suggestibility, like from clever ment, color usage, music, positioning, and the talking of a salesperson, psycholog or official.
But let’s say there was. You still would need the effect on the students be more than highened aggression and competitiveness. Because as I said before, those can be used for better things than degrading yourself and attacking others, if one is willing.

Subtle influence and force? You realise those contradict? Force means you can’t act differently, it can only be the puppet version, that mentioned. It’s also the one you need, to be right and for me to be wrong.
Subtle influence is gentle redirection, it doesn’t cut, remove, overshadow or hinder the targets control over themself. It’s increasing the likelihood of what happens, by influecing things at the right time. In the case of the Dazzlings, they influence emotions and say the right thing, at the right time. One slowly tries to change what someone does, if the changes are desired to be permanent, one has to invest a lot of time. It would take years, or maybe even decades. It’s what Sunset and the Dazzlings without Equestrian magic did. It can be easily redirected or siphoned, like what I did with my own emotions, in what I said about my past. And it’s never precise, because people react differently. There are always individuals, who react completely out of the expected fashion, in fiction fewer than in real life. It’s due to a combination of different traits, or in the case of this movie, the Rainbooms, Sunset and one extra person wearing headphones all the time. Oh, and their little dog too.
Case in point, Sunset siphoned and redirected the emotions of the Rainbooms, to break their fight. She ited her fault and dragged theirs into the forefront, making them feel guilty.

PS: Something that doesn’t directly relate to the discussion, but was made noticeable by it. Applejacks bond with Twilight didn’t break. Even when the Rainbooms started to fight each other, she still cared.~<3

Once again, you’re simply using biased opinions instead of logic. If that kind of scene could “easily happen” then it would’ve right at the beginning. Heck, probably before the Dazzlings even showed up. the scene when he shows up after hearing the music? He complements their work and even looks forward to seeing them in the competition. There was literally no malice there until after they showed up.

And again, there’s lingering effects from their hypnosis, even if they didn’t do anything after they sang they basically already had rest of the school under their spell, their influence was still there.

For example, they went to see Celestia and Luna about the situation and they didn’t exactly “look” mind controlled until we see a few small glimmer is in their eyes, and considering the time that past from when the Dazzlings arrived at the school to when the Rainbooms came to the Principal for help it’s easy to do so that their spell have long lasting effects, ergo, everyone was acting out with basically brainwashed into being more aggressive.

So saying that was his “true self” is complete BS. I never said that he didn’t have any emotions or couldn’t have any without the Dazzlings, I simply said that wasn’t the way he was truly feeling at the moment, there’s a difference. You need to that there are different types of hypnosis, the kind that simply bend you to others will like a puppet, and the kind that subtly influences you and forces you to act in ways you wouldn’t normally act without you or anyone else knowing it.

So no, Flash wasn’t at fault here. He was just as guiltless as Celestia, Luna, and the rest of the school.
@Painfulldarksoul
Logic, hm? Well, how about what Adagio said they would do to the students:

Adagio Dazzle: Our voices are just strong enough to make them want something so badly, they’ll fight to get it.

Which is exactly what happened. They made them fight. The Sirens even figured out who the girls with the unusual magic were since those were the ones not fighting. In fact, the Rainbooms were the one band who they had to push into fighting since their magic wasn’t working on them:

Aria Blaze: But the Rainblossoms, or whatever they’re called, aren’t under our spell. How exactly are we supposed to get to their magic?
Adagio Dazzle: The Rainbooms are just as capable of falling apart as anyone else. They just need a little… push in the wrong direction. I have a feeling everyone here is going to be lining up to give them a shove.”

So, the theory that this is simply showing who Flash really is is the opposite of what the characters, including the villains, say happened.
@darknessRising24
The difference between your and mine is, when I say something, I explain why I think so with reasoning. I use logic. No claims from me.
You would adress the points I state, or prove your own with logic, if you had anything but claims.
The lack of “mind control eyes” means that you are wrong and they weren’t under control, to the amount you need at least, with the long term effect you speak of being the raised aggression and competativeness. That was them being aggressive and competative, no outright force on their actions.
Prove it wasn’t his fault. Prove they had any effect, that a normal person couldn’t have. Where do I say there shouldn’t be leeway? And there are many more claims from you, in the previous comments.
He was always like that. Yes I said that. So what? It’s like with the things I mentioned from my past. People can get jealous and angry, so can he. So, yes. He is and was always like that. If you think him getting jealous and angry didn’t happen, you didn’t watch the same thing I did. Or do you think he has no emotions? Or that he can’t have those emotions without the Dazzlings? The whole point of me mentioning my past and saying people are responsible for how they act on their emotions, wasn’t me being edgy. I don’t care about being edgy. It was me saying he was responsible for his action, which were based on his emotions and not controlled by the Dazzlings. The Dazzlings made specific emotions manifest, but the actions were all his.
In that regard, as an answer to your last question. Depending on the circumstances, it easily could. So could the fight between the Rainbooms.

Just because you claim something, doesn’t make it true.

The same can be said for you, considering the fact that everything argument you’ve made so far has just been an excuse to say he should be held able for something that wasn’t his fault.

There’s also the fact that Trixie and Photo Finish’s group didn’t have the “mind control eyes” look and yet they still sabotaged the Rainbooms performance. If anything it basically means that the Dazzlings spell had a long term effect that lingered even after they finished singing.

You’re basically saying that Flash has always been like that and shouldn’t be given any leeway whatsoever, the same excuse that every other Flash-hater likes to use is when they want excuse to demonize this guy.

Let me ask you this, if the Dazzlings hadn’t cast their spell do you still think Flash would’ve acted like that towards her?
@darknessRising24
Just because you claim something, doesn’t make it true. They don’t repeat and the spell didn’t override anything.
They used one song to rise aggression and besides that, at most only poked Celestia and Luna a bit, when necessary. But besides that they only use words, to manipulate peoples mob mentality. Which while not a nice thing to do, still doesn’t excuse the mob and he is juct another part of said mob.
One doesn’t need magic for everything and this is a tactic, which many people used, including dictators.

As for the basking. What about it? … It’s just that. Basking. Round one doesn’t automatically translate to them using magic.

And looking at that last part, you lump all control into one.
Sure every little bit of control, alleviates a bit of fault. But here is the thing. Only the most extreme, actually alleviates it all. Otherwise all war-crime could be excused, on the base of:“I was just following orders.”
They exterted less control than Sunset in the first movie. Sunset openly ruled the school. ?
Overall, there are a lot of instances of mindcontrol, of the caliber of your need. However, they are far and few between and not ever at a point, where you need them to make your case.
The influence that turned Luna into Nightmare Moon? Arguably.
Discords’ mind warp? Fluttershys’ resistance would suggest no, but then he just did it manually and the way the memories had to be reawoken.
Sombras’ fear magic, Cadances’ magic? Not likely.
Alicorn Amulet, the love potion, want it need it? Likely.
When Chrysalis had Shining in front of the altar and he had the empty stare, with his eyes green and looking in two different directions? Absolutely.
But before that point? No.
Sunset? At first no, until she got the magic and turned everyone swirly eyed.
Same with the Dazzling’s as with the last two. They didn’t have the control that you are talking about, until they turned dark magical girls and everyone got weird eyes again.

Sorry but that logic still doesn’t hold up, the most Flash does at first is be nice to her, he was never arrogant or mean at first. Heck, he was genuinely nice to Twi before their failed “friendship attack”, he only acted like a dick later into the competition when the Dazzling’s spell was even stronger than before.

, the more conflict they cause, the more they can feed and the more their power grows, lather, rinse, and repeat.

So at that point where he snapped at her the spell had overridden his affections for her to the point where he only saw a rival band.

Not to mention that right after this scene we see the Dazzlings basically basking in their misery:
full
“Tears already? This is only the first round.”

So yeah, they KNEW how to get under Twi’s skin and exploited it. Singling Flash out and hating him for something like that is not only petty but very unfair. By that logic you should hate the mane five for how they acted under Discord’s control and Shining Armor for how he acted under Chrysalis’ control.

Yes removing inhibition and making someone agressive are two different causes. However! Making a certain emotion dominate someones psyche, will at some point make them break control, removing or at least supressing inhibition. That’s the thing with emotions. They will win, if you try to supress or control them. Because they are you.
And it doesn’t matter if someone artificially implanted them in you, by way of drug, magic or manipulation. They are emotions, not living creatures, it’s you who decides what to do with them. Someone wants you to have a battle of the bands and makes you aggressive? Then do somthing to win. You have the choice of working harder in some way or inhibiting others. The choice is still yours, but both are aggression. You decide to inhibit others? Means you can’t reach their levels, are weak and a worse person. You could do tons to improve yourself, but chose to be pathetic.
Yes they controlled Celestia and Luna. But they still didn’t make everyone go at each others throat for no reason, the main six have attacked each other over specific things and so has everyone else. They didn’t put new behavior in, they just raised the heat until the pot was boiling over. The main six resolved it all, because they itted their faults. That was the point of the whole show. It’s not just the villain has done something and we must do something against this. It’s what can we do, to be less horrible people. It’s not just:“Oh no, not The Sirens!” It’s what have we done wrong and how can we do this better. The Dazzlings didn’t take away anything, people just decided that ‘must fight over this’ is more important than politeness and empathy.
As to the second idea you both had.
I felt only sadness, fear and shame thanks to them, for several years. I don’t feel remorse for what I wanted to do back then. These were horrible people and I was in the right to be angry. I felt rage for less than five minutes and more alive, than in all those years. I started loving myself again that day and started seeing all my parts, that others describe as ‘good and evil’, as great and wonderful sides of me. If someone decided I’m a villain for what I felt that day, it would have become a thing of pride for me and a reason to rejoice. Villain? Great! Evil? That’s wondeful! I’m a raging monster for wanting to end someone, who would be happy to bully other into suicide? You. Compliments won’t get you anywhere. I’m happy that I start working harder if I’m jealous of others. Or so pridefull, that I try to do work to perfection. That I get angry enough over the mistreatment of others, that I cheer if something horrifying happens to the one doing the mistreatment(Yes. In real life.). All my traits are great. No matter if it’s pride, wrath, sloth, kindness, sense for justice, jealousy, ion, lust, sadism, cruelty, or any other. I’m happy for them all and for being alive. And I will never decry my deeds on their basis.
All my traits are my best qualities.
I also read that people hate others that remind them of their perceived own worst qualities. Do you think that’s true?

Now that would make sense. Again, terribly hypocritical, but it makes sense.

@Painfulldarksoul
Like Poptard noted, altering parts of somepony’s personality by force means they’re not acting in their right mind. If you slip somepony drugs that make them angry and violent and they end up exploding at somepony, that’s not on them, that’s on you.

Also, , the Sirens were introduced as creating conflict to siphon magic. Later on, Twilight explained how they gain power from “the negativity and distrust of others”. The movie points out several times that they use magic to create conflict—if they’re not outright brainwashing people—and at no time does any character ever say that it just lowers inhibition. That’s just not ed by what’s shown.

I’d argue that the Dazzling’s spell was not inhibition removal, but specifically pushing victims towards an aggressive state. Flash’s was the archetypal Nice Guy character in the first movie, so it’s telling to the degree of mind-alteration when he and other classmates exhibited behaviors they never showed before or after the Dazzlings mind-altered them. In fact, the Dazzlings outright mind controlled Celestia and Luna, ? You can’t take forcibly away essential parts of somebody’s personality, like empathy and politeness and things that influence their decisions, and call the result their “true self.”

||Imagine if someone took a snapshot of you in that moment. Not the reasons leading up to it, nor what you did after that. Simply you, while you were trying to seriously hurt somebody else, and that’s the only metric they judge you by. I’m 99% certain nobody would consider that the “real” you, and that’s something you’ve held serious remorse for. Yet, at that moment, you’re the obvious villain in that single frame.

If people looked at that one frame of your moment of weakness and decided that is your true character and ignored all evidence to the contrary, I’d be the first to argue that they’re being obtuse. ||

I also read that people hate others that remind them of their perceived own worst qualities. Do you think that’s true?
@Poptard

@Starswirl
The main part of what you both forget is the amount of retained autonomy they keep. They didn’t become robots? So they are held able for their deeds, until they do. Removing someones inhibitions, means showing the real them, them if they could do whatever they want. You angry is just you in another emotional state.
I did snap once after years of bullying and wanted the people responsible dead, to squish their windpipes myself until they died. I litterally attacked one of them and only stopped once I realised, that I wouldn’t get the others, if I managed to kill this one now. The one angry was me. The one wanting this guy dead was me. The one wanting everyone, who tryed to stand in my way for whatever reason, to die, was me. And the one who decided I had to stop or I would be the one to suffer, while they got away, was also me. Every reason why I stopped was based on malicious intend towards them. No matter what you are feeling or doing, you are always responsible for what you do.
@Painfulldarksoul
No, I’m like the people who think if somepony is hypnotised, they’re made to act differently than they normally would. You want some more evidence?

Shining wanted to wear his favourite uncle’s sash. Chrysalis didn’t want him to. They disagreed, she used her magic on him, and at the wedding, he turned up with a different sash.

When the real wedding happened, he wore the sash he originally wanted to wear. So no, Chrysalis was influencing him even before.

The thing about drunks is that they choose to intake the alcohol, so they are responsible for whatever comes out of the situation they cause. To use that metaphor, you wouldn’t hold a person able for what happens if someone got roofied without their consent and did something they regret.

@Pokykid
Hope they leave room for Trixie and Octavia and half the school in that locker. Because that’s only fair. Jerks.
@Starswirl
You would understand if you read my comments. Yes Chrysalis had total control by the end. With emphasis on ‘THE END’.
Not before.
None of the changes to his behavior, explain his little explosion. That was him believing Chrysalis was his wife.

As for the Dazzlings making everyone competative and aggressive. That was literally in my both last comments. Yes they had that influence. How the people wanted to act on it, is all them.

You are like the people, who think drunks shouldn’t be held able for their deeds. Sure! The alcohol has an influence on them. It makes people less prone to think of consequences, more aggressive and impulsive. Whatever they do under it’s influence, is what they would, if they were given free reign. Anything horrible, disgusting or sleazy is all them, as is anything positive they would do. It’s the same people, just without the inhibition.
@Painfulldarksoul
So, you’re convinced Chrysalis using her powers to suppress Shining’s will didn’t affect his behaviour? Or the Dazzlings singing about how the stundents should be super-competetive plus super-aggressive (they did so in the diner, and they did so during their cafeteria song) had no bearing on said students’ behaviour?

I’m sorry, but that doesn’t sound logical to me. In both cases, it was shown how the villains affected their victims’ minds on-screen. The Dazzlings even feed on creating fights, and they can feed on the fighting their influence creates, and they were shown feeding off of it. I don’t see how the people affected are to blame here.
