It’s just that she’s dealing with so many insecurities that she pretends to be greater than everyone else.
There were a few hints during the s6 finale that seemed to imply this is the case.
I think it would be interesting if its true that it’s all show, but I’m on the fence still.
I think it’s just as likely Trixie is simply as egotistic as Discord.
That doesn’t mean she hasn’t improved how she expresses her ego though,
certainly compared to pre-s6 appearances.
I felt pretty bad for Thorax through this group of misfits.
Thorax did have that ‘quiet suffering’ deal going on, yeah.
Not to belittle or dismiss it, but I’m sure he’s been used to that his whole life as a changeling, too.
I felt pretty bad for Thorax through this group of misfits. Discord has always had his ego and is prone to going it alone, starlight and trixie had eachother, but Thorax? His one true friend, Spike, was already captured and he had practically NO interaction with discord, starlight, or trixie. Talk about the difficulties of putting his faith in strangers.

This sentence right here is why I love Trixie so much. Trixie didn’t drastically change her behavior to redeem herself. She is still the same egocentric and braggadocious pony she always was. Now, however, through her friendship with Starlight, it has caused her to be more caring and more friendly. Now, personally, I feel like Trixie was actually a nice pony. It’s just that she’s dealing with so many insecurities that she pretends to be greater than everyone else. With so, I believe that all Trixie really wanted this whole time was someone who loved her warts and all, and that her friendship with Starlight is bringing out a side she always had but was afraid to show.
I never liked Trixie that much till this episode. Seriously it goes to show how much she has grown, and I love the relationship between her and Starlight. One of the best parts of the finale.

It was a bit for me personally when I first watched it. But if you were to give a deeper thought on it, it definitely shows character more than you would normally expect which is very interesting. A good example would be Rarity herself since she expresses herself in so many ways. (Like how she kinda mimics Pinkie’s personality in Gift of Maud Pie)

Sacrifice herself to protect the two (that’s freaking selfless and bravery at the same time, even though she can be afraid of Changelings and Ursa Minor)
ive (To Starlight. Heck she even believes Starlight can be a good leader even though she doubts herself)
Oddly optimistic (we normally expect her to be the negative type but it was the other way round for this one when she actually says that there’s still hope despite no magic. )

I personally love this scene for a couple of reasons. First, I love Starlight and Trixie’s friendship. It’s adorable. Second, I love how Trixie goes ahead and says she will distract all the changelings, essentially saying she will take them all on by herself, just so Starlight and Thorax can get out safe. Seriously, Trixie is so cool and so awesome.

Agreed. Everything that’s interesting and likable about both of those characters is amplified when they’re together. Casting Trixie as Starlight’s new best friend was a stroke of genius.
It continually astounds me how well Trixie and Starlight’s friendship works. Trixie really gets Starlight in ways Twilight just can’t, and it brings out this great protective quality in Trixie that she never really gets to show otherwise.
