I look at that movie being shown and I’m envious of the ponies when I consider everything awaiting them in horror cinema: Son of Frankenstag (Rathbone, Karloff, Lugosi, and Atwill, all in one film!), The Wolf Mare, Son of Vampony*, House of Frankenstag, and of course the classic, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstag!

Unless the actual play they went to see here comes back and is an important item later in the story, it’s less Chekov’s Gun and more general foreshadowing.
However, if the actual Frankenstag book ends up appearing later (which is likely considering the plot is about books) then Twilight mentioning it here in ing would actually count as a Chekov’s gun.
