Withdrawn, yes, a possibility. But that would have required her to be a coward. She basically had two options:
Staying and becoming a recluse while occasionally getting laughed at and mistreated. And leaving her village, all those who betrayed her, behind and just trying to get along in the world alone.
The first thing is something she would have likely done if she would have been too afraid to leave her village and to try her luck in the wide, wide world. But the fact that she has left her still relatively safe village to head out into the world, as a little filly no less, shows that, already as a filly, she was anything but a coward, so the first possibility is something she would have never done.
It also showed before already that she never was a coward in the first place, as she was the only one who went into the cave and then even tried to fight the Ursa Minor to protect her “friends”.
Becoming a recluse really was not an option for her, so she did the only other thing she could do in this situation.

…Or she become withdrawn, cold, irritable, and dismissive during the immediate aftermath. Adults would be understanding (and things would smooth out… eventually), but children are more simple: “okay, let’s play with someone who don’t yell for no reason”.
Has (seemingly) awesome friends, defends them from an Ursa Minor, her horn breaks when he attacks her and then her “friends” suddenly drop her and cast her out of their social circle because she isn’t able to properly use magic anymore.
Something like this happening in a village full of arrogant elitist unicorns who care more about magical skills than inner values and who have no idea of loyalty (and neither empathy, evidently) is definitely enough to bring a young unicorn filly on the dark path.

I’m guessing for unicorns their horns are a pretty big deal, but thinking back to Tempest and the movie, I don’t really see how that’s enough to make somepony a bad guy…

Am I supposed to feel sympathy for Tempest? Sorry I wasn’t that big of a fan of the movie…

Could be possible, although the base of her horn still is there.
We really need to get an answer to that D: There is at least one other pony with a horn problem, a stallion (was in an episode but can’t which one), and it would be nice to know if a horn grows back or if magic can fix it.

From what we saw in the show, a unicorn’s horn does grow. I mean, the spa ponies used a nail file on Rarity’s horn, so it has to grow somehow.
I think the reason, it doesn’t grow back might be, because Tempest still uses magic. It would be as if someone with a broken leg still tries to run instead of giving his leg some rest to recover. The only difference with the horn would be that it doesn’t hurt.

I really gotta wonder if it’s possible to fix her horn, after the big deal with Raritys mane getting all broken in a recent episode and magic wasn’t able to fix it, how could it be possible to fix her horn?
