Twilight was still a young filly when Spike was born, fillies are known to be 5 year old mares, so that would mean she could have been almost 5 years older than him at the time he hatched from his egg.
@Evowizard25
Eh, there’s an argument to be made for Twilight being older than that, which makes Spike older too.
And while the argument over ‘adult age’ is complex, the actual brain-chemistry is usually accepted as part of what determines when it should be (specifically, part of the argument for teenagers not being sufficiently mature is that their brain ‘isn’t quite done cooking’, so to speak) so a year or two could be shaven off for a faster-maturing species.
So, on the high end (young Twilight when she hatched him, older Twilight in the series) Spike’s the equivalent of a 16-18 year old, so just barely acceptable.
On the low end, he could be any age from like 6 up, depending on how old Twilight was when she hatched him and how young she is now (I’d protest any less than a 6-year time-skip, both because of Twilight’s education and her growth - 8’s more likely the bare minimum)
@Lost Marbles
I’d wager about 6-8 years younger. So if we put Twilight, at the start of the series, at a respectable 18 years of age, roundabout. That puts Spike at 12-14 now that about 2 years have gone by in the mlp universe, which given his size and maturity, seems fitting honestly.
