Telekinesis is likely far from easy, it’s just so useful and energy efficient that unicorns would quickly become very practiced with it. Flurry Heart’s shields are far better than her telekinesis for instance.
Shields are so rarely used, that you would have to specifically practice them in your downtime. Most wouldn’t bother.
Almost all shields we’ve seen have been closed and totally circular too, which makes me wonder if they’re more practical to maintain that way.
I always thought a shield would be easy because it’s like using the levitation any unicorn can do; you’re just pushing in more directions than one. I’d expect any unicorn to be able to do the work of an umbrella for a little while.

he singlehandedly covered the entire city of canterlot in a shield bubble, a feat that the powers of both princesses combined could not achieve. he can do something that no pony on earth, or possibly even in all of existence can achieve. his shield more powerful than the princesses and the elements of harmony (mostly because he’s lawfully wedded to a hot princess, since monogamy grants you superpowers). if of all unicorns, only one single unicorn is OP at shields, shining armor is that unicorn.

Shining Armor is pretty powerful to be fair. He just has a real bad habit of running into folks who can pretty much ignore energy shields.
He also tends to forget his specialty and go on the offensive like a moron, which doesn’t help.
Yet she is good with her telekinesis. Why not grab the bugs and throw them?
