I didn’t say serious, I said dark and straight forward.  
Dark for the gruesome deaths and straight forward for basically being just a monster fight (a very good one, mind you) with scientist help.  
I’m not bold enough call a film a random Banana Splits level Gogo song and dance number “serious”
