If you wade through the rage, factionalism and deranged fanbois, you can find lots of well done tutorials, tips, and tricks for actually painting things. The principles and techniques translate well for other miniatures and models, and at least the people doing them don’t try to write or sound like a stoned Mr. Rogers.
I actually really enjoy playing x-wing, I find it a fun and relaxing game. Armada’s pretty good too.
