I keep imagining an alternate scenario based on this.
Something along the lines of:
Featherweight breaks and runs off in order to commit suicide.
Babs, wondering why her favorite toy isn’t at school that day, skips class to look for him.
She finds him standing on top of a sheer cliff, and calls out to him while running up.
Seeing the source of all his pain again causes to Featherweight to panic and leap off the cliff.
Babs, running off of impulse more than anything else, instantly jumps after him.
Seeing another pony falling to her death causes Featherweight to reflexively grab her and ensure their landing doesn’t kill them.
Lying there in a bloody heap, Babs demands to know why Featherweight tried to kill himself.
Sobbing, Featherwight explains how he couldn’t go on living with all the pain she caused him.
Realizing the full weight of her actions, Babs breaks down crying, insisting she never meant to truly hurt him and begging for his forgiveness.
Seeing in Babs’ eyes the same degree of pain that he had felt, Featherweight pulls her into a hug and tells her he forgives her. Later, a rescue team finds them, with Babs still clutching Featherweight and repeating “I’m sorry…” Then they get taken to the hospital.
