Discord was, just briefly, Nyarlathotep–an alien god from another dimension, who was playing a game with the ponies, a game where he was the only one who knew the rules.
Now he hangs out with Fluttershy, go figure. But for a while he was a terrifying eldritch abomination from another universe.

In my experience the children (5 years old, was it?) were doing okay with the artwork alone; rather, it was the voice I gave Rabia that started them crying. I had to agree to tone it down for the arc’s finale issue.
Even in this “true form” it still looks pretty cute. Not at all like the first time I saw one of these.
I love that the comic staff are so fine with traumatising children.
