seven years after the finale, somebody else’s commission of cozy getting hugged with no context or timeframe can’t be posted without an argument in the comments. this is where some people draw the line i guess.

you know, maybe instead of having this constant back and forth of whether she did or didn’t deserve redemption, we should talk about WHY she doesn’t have any backstory, parents, or motivations or goals besides the barest minimum “evil cause evil” when every other villain had at least something. nevermind that cozy herself doubled down on being evil, if she literally has nothing assigned to her by the writers, then what are you expecting her to do? she didn’t write herself.

without any backstory that’s critical to this archetype working at all nevermind redemption, cozy has two things to her character. being a child and being evil. everything else, from the things in the box and the mad faces to the tantrums and better way to be bad song, is a smokescreen. where you land on the “debate” depends on if you think her age or actions is more important. it’s an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object and THIS is why this is still going on seven years later.

if the writers decided cozy had parents that abused her, that would be a backstory and an explanation. if they decided cozy was the real grogar all along or an adult in a child’s body, that would be a backstory and the “she’s a child” debate would be null and void. but instead there’s nothing official and the entire last two seasons of the show are dedicated to a minor causing society to collapse and erasing magic because those are bad things.

according to leaks, cozy had been in development since 2016. you would think if she was supposed to end up like who we got they would have made ANY backstory or “actually an adult” it would have been by 2018. she’s supposed to be the ultimate villain of the entire series. there’s no excuse.

and i say would have because initally she was from a land with no friendship specifically, misunderstood it, recruited to the school, and was planning to make a secret club to share her ideology of friendship = power while helping chrysalis inflitrate. and then redeemed and would have become an ambassador of friendship to her land like what tempest became.

and why was she changed to canon cozy? because they needed a villain to be the element of deceit for an elements of disharmoy plot that also never happened. a plot that would have ended with cozy seeing the light along with tirek and chrysalis and possibly sombra. the last villain of the show was supposed to be midnight sparkle.

TWICE cozy was supposed to be a concrete, interesting character, but instead this has happened and it’s spoilt the show for a lot of people, including myself. and no matter who fills in the gaps or how, it always ends like this. people tripping over each other to wax about how diabolical cozy is and why she should never get a second chance when with such empty writing she never got a FIRST one. (and i’m pretty sure her status as the big bad of season 8 was leaked before a single picture of her was, so there’s also that.)

this is never getting resolved. g4 is over. g5 is over and she wasn’t mentioned. g6 is a reboot that will probably never mention her either. she was never given any story in the comics and in fact i’m pretty sure swift foot from feats of friendship was developed as a RESPONSE to her. anything from the showrunners or vas only pours gasoline on the fire because they can’t decide if she has a secret backstory they’re keeping back or if they didn’t have time to make a backstory (the truth is neither)

cozy caused equestria to come apart by her presence, and seven years on causes the community to come apart by her presence. but we continue to blame her like she’s a real person as if she’s responsible for her own lack of backstory.

and at the end of the day, if it really doesn’t matter and you think cozy doesn’t need anything else than shown on screen, then take comfort and pride in the fact that the entire show and everyone who made it agrees with you. continue to indulge yourself in fics where she gets smashed and tortured on loop until the end of time but don’t act like this is a position that needs to be defended. the source media is agreeing with you every step of the way.

Pretty much, yea. It’s also worth noting that Discord, the one who all but orchestrated the whole thing, not only got off scott-free, but also got to decide her punishment. It was horrific.

I think a big problem is how everyone reacted to her petrification. They CHEERED which is not right for such a dark and somber scene. That is not something you cheer for. It’s a situation that they should feel awful about and wishing it never happened. No triumphant music, no cheering and moving on so quickly. No this is a moment that should have been reflected on asking wss this the right call and should leave mixed feelings in all of them because the fact is happened to a child regardless lf whwt she did is still morally awful. That isn’t a punishment but eternal cruelty. A punishment is actually making her fix her mistakes while also making sure to keep the idea of reforming her on the table and also making sure she is okay and well fed while she helps to fix the damage she caused but and this is important they need to keep her safe from anyone who would try to hurt her. They must also find a proper caregiver for her who knows her tricks but is still willing to love and teach her. Parental love is something she needs because she has no parents at all. This is how you balance justice with mercy. The problem with the petrification is it’s a question of showing mercy which you expect from the good guys but they deny mercy to a child even if she didn’t deserve it that doesn’t matter you show mercy anyway because its the morally right thing to do.

It was a matter of misunderstanding friendship. Yea, it was evil, but certainly not proof that she cannot be reformed. After all, Discord too betrayed everyone multiple times.

It was barely anything to work with, and she did not even try with Cozy. No asking why she wanted power, or trying to dissuade her or anything. She had plenty to work with. And with Discord, Fluttershy declared that after she put in the effort of reforming him and despite her knowing all about who he was and what he was capable of. Cozy again, was given up on immediately.

Can you prove that it is real? Nobody seemed to care about it in the show in particular, after all.

It does, actually. There were multiple opportunities where she could have killed someone, namely those guards in the finale, yet she kept them alive and in relatively good shape. If she was some remorseless killer, she would have a bodycount. You can also compare it to when Starlight tried blasting her villagers who were trying to save Twilight’s cutie mark. If your saying that Cozy was a wannabe murderer, then that logically applies to Starlight as well.

Either way, there is nothing in the show to suggest that she cannot change for the better, and the fact that previously reformed villains exist, who got second chances despite not earning them makes it only fair to give the literal child one as well. It’s not rocket science. Just reform her like they did with the literal chaos god.

I mostly exaggerate when I talk about Cocks, but it’s still true that Hasbro completely screwed over the initial plan for the Grogang. These arguments on Cozy’s morality are always going to go nowhere when there was no official backstory for her along with completely inconsistent plans among numerous writers regarding whether she was truly redeemable or not.

I dunno, if you’re making friends with everyone over months and then thinking nothing about backstabbing them while showing an awareness that everyone else would find that as evil because you’re manipulating them as such… I’m gonna say that counts.

Which was still something for Twilight to work with at all. Cozy gave her nothing and showed zero emotional confliction about the consequences, which even Discord did back in S3; Fluttershy declaring him as her friend still moved him, which is not the case for literally anything Cozy did.

And what’s your basis for the writers putting it in because it’s fake? Because it’s confirmation bias for how so horribly wronged Cozy was, for you to think of it that way? They deliberately had a horn and a skull to give room to interpret, by default, that they’re real, as a sign of how twisted she is.

It seems disingenuous for it to be confidently argued that way.

That was her idea and participation, and I doubt she cared beyond amusement, and either way, “failed to kill anyone” still doesn’t serve as a defense for her character, lol.

No, she did not show that. The issue is that Starlight (and Discord) was given a second chance and was given help to change for the better, while there was never a dedicated attempt at rehabilitating Cozy. And with Starlight, the closest “emotional pain” was her friend moving away once. The moment she was revealed as a villain, everyone immediately gave up on that filly, and her punishment only worsened her. There was no reason to lock her in Tartarus.

And of course, people tend to completely ignore any arguments in her favor as well.

As for the skill, it could just be a fake prop. It’s also worth noting that she never killed anyone.

She showed by default that the approach that worked with Starlight didn’t work, because she was always working from the perspective of “how can I use them,” no visible emotional pain that lead her to believe in anything but power, and if there was anything, it’s not like she showed it. Subpar execution or not, nopony being nice and appreciating her, meant anything to her.

Does that mean it’s impossible to reform her? No, but it should be deeper than just “let’s throw more of what didn’t dissuade her in the first place,” imo, lol.

…It wasn’t just a skull, she had what appeared to be a severed unicorn horn in her box, which raises the question of why she has both of these things at all, regarding her backstory, implications, and it doesn’t help that she shows a willingness, even eagerness, to be a cold-blooded murderer later on.

Discord did not apologize either, and got a lot of chances. Cozy was not given a second chance whatosever. There is no proof that she cannot change and considering her young age, it is most likely that she can change given proper help. Simply “being bad” means that she needs rehabilitation. She deserved better.

She’s rotten and bad, and the fact that people in real life honestly think she’s “just a child” and “redeemable” means her trick worked on you.
If she said she was sorry, she would’ve been forgiven on the spot, but guess what? Not only did she not apologize, she tried to kill them all again.

Am I missing something in leaks? G4 was over years before he even took that role, and WOTC was a different department (where Chris was doing that since 2016, checking on WOTC history), so unless you’re giving him time travel powers or I don’t know something…
