Actually, that was the culmination of a long series of breakdowns in Spoony’s life by that point.
IIRC, he had already been clinically depressed for years, had Sean Fauz stab him in the back and wish him dead, his fans are rabid enough to where other people in Channel Awesome were reluctant to crossover with him, his girlfriend/ broke up and he did not handle it well, etc.
And then when the rape joke happened, the person in question, Jesu Otaku (who I don’t like for many reasons personally, but not for anything in this case) awkwardly wiped it off until other reviewer, Lupa, brought it back up after about a month & a half of it happening, causing said Twitter war & breakdown. The stress from it, in addition to his seeing a therapist and getting diagnosed with bipolar disorder, led him to leave Channel Awesome; however, misinformed rumors about him getting canned for said joke by TGWTG’s , a woman, lasted for a while and didn’t let up any of the stress.
Chad, meanwhile, had (IIRC) about three of his family die in the span of a few months, he probably had an off-net breakdown, which led to his hiatus & slow output and apparently soured his whole outlook on life since he’s pretty much turned into a dick. This is a theory, mind you, but…

True… and because of that, if the same thing happens with CR, no one is gonna hear from him ever again. Unlike Spoony, who… despite the things he’s said… seems to still be doing pretty well for himself.

At least after time, Spoony could it when he did something wrong. I don’t think CR could let down his ego for half a fucking second no matter how much he fucks up.
(I don’t even mean that as an insult towards him, he’s going out of his way to antagonize everyone and it generally seems like he wants people to hate him.)

He made.a.suicide joke about mixing Delancie characters just a few days before JewWario killed himself, and didn’t take it down for two days until someone called him out on it. So for that time, he “joke” was right underneath suicide prevention links.
Chad’s long since stopped caring about doing serious research consistently, especially with MLP. His off handed comments about how stupid the new TMNT show and Sonic Boom are based on extremely minor details prove that. Pizza and energy tether, thus they suck.

no i’m saying chad should have checked his facts before posting that comment. also i’m sure chad wouldn’t say mlp is the cause of the economic crisis i mean chad’s a dick but he’s not that big of a dick to do something like that.
