They were thought to be red because they appeared red when we got a glance during one of her earliest appearances, I think during the end of the season 2 finale.

I’m fully aware that people for some reason assumed they were red, feel free to inform me on where that absurd idea came from. This art was posted years after her canon eye color was revealed and regardless of how I feel about red eyes, it doesn’t change the fact that it is wrong.
The thing about me is that I prefer to refer to canon rather than fanon and while I do not call Derpy “Ditzy” or “Muffins”, she was referred to as “Derpy” canonically in the show.

Before it was made clear that her eyes were indigo, it was largely believed they were red, and as such, a lot of people grew to like the idea of her eyes being red. There are even fanfics that mention or focus on it. One of my favourite being University days

Vinyl looked uncomfortable from the intense, unblinking gaze upon her, but the grey mare couldn’t stop. For weeks she had wondered about them and tried to catch a glimpse. Those two, deep orbs that had eluded her for so long were now visible in their entirety.
And they were beautiful…

All she could do was watch the red eyes that had captivated her to the point of near-delirium. They still held a subtle, almost hypnotising quality to them, bright as they were.”…
Despite red eyes not being canon, the majority of people prefer red. I bet you also call Derpy “Ditzy”.
I always loved that effect of lights during a foggy/rainy night. The wavelength of the light become longer and the light seems to be contained in a lantern. I find the night to be very lonely but enchanting. This is verily fantastic.
I can really appreciate what these featured images. I would never have espied such a piece without it.
