When she was part of PACT (an acronym I forget what it stands for, but they are like a monster hunting military squad) before being transferred to the Detrot Police Department, she and others in her group there were magically experimented on with transformative and mind altering magics. Swift was dared to eat some meat by a griffin detective, which is the trigger to start the transformation. Luckily for her, her partner Hard “Hardy” Boiled Jr got help to STOP the transformation before it changed her further than some sharp flesh tearing teeth and changing her diet up to now make her omnivorous with carnivore leanings. Trust me, those who went the full transformation changed into horrifying monsters.
That’s the Masamane (the gun’s name), and yes it has one hell of a recoil, but Swift can handle it.
