Same, I it I used to be a huuuge SonSal fan, but I’m not that into ‘shipping nowadays. (And I accept Sally basically doesn’t exist anymore sadly.) Though, some SonSal fans are going overboard, like some on DA are protesting Sega, Archie, & IDW for not making SonSal canon anymore, and such.
Some are even oddly demonizing comic writer Ian Flynn, trying to spread rumors he “hates Sally,” and such, which is odd, because in the Archie days he portrayed her much better then writers Ken Penders or Karl Bollers did, (Ken tried to kill her off, and Karl wrote the controversial “Sally slaps Sonic” issue) and used her fairly frequently. (In fact, Sally-haters used to demonize Ian just for using Sally in the comics, and accused him of being a “SonSal fanboy,” and such. So I’m confused at the sudden turn around.)
I kinda feel sorry for Ian sometimes. I’m sure if you, or I worked on an official Sonic product, we’d be accused of random things too.

Yeah, alot of that romance drama stopped after writer Ian Flynn took over. (He did tease a li’l though, but not accessively.)
Writer Karl Bollers was the creator of Mina Mongoose, and created the Sonic/Sally/Mina love-triangle. (Similar to Archie/Betty/Veronica, which also sparked much “which girl?” fan-debate for decades.) That stopped after Mina later got her own boyfriend.
I hear Karl also wanted to pair Sonic & Amy up, as in “BF & GF,” but Sega forbid it, because Sega wanted to keep that comical “cat & mouse” relationship between them in tact like in the games. (Makes you wonder if Karl had something against Sally, though I hear the reason he broke Sonic & Sally up, was because Sega said to. As I said, Sega allows some flirting, and ‘ship teasing, but doesn’t want Sonic in a permanent relationship. Which as I said is understandable, as Sonic is probably better off solo, and the Sonic series isn’t really about romance.)
Yeah but after Amy Rose disappeared from the games, for the longest time there was nothing between them in those comics. Not even the one sided crush that Amy had in the games. She was in fact seen as a little girl (even when she artificially aged up, the other characters still saw her as a kid). I do at least one comic that seem to hint at Amy/Tails.
Sonic never returned Mina’s feelings but she later fell in love with him and there was some relationship drama from that with her being jealous of Sally. But yeah, I am aware that all that was a long time ago and it all ended long before even the Archie comic did.

Amy Rose was hitting on & chasing Sonic in the games sense “Sonic CD,” so that’s Sega’s doing actually.
The only girls he’s technically been in a GF&BF relationship in was Princess Sally, and very briefly Fiona Fox. (He never got with Mina Mongoose, or other girls. That’s a common misconception of the Archie Sonic canon.) So honestly he really hasn’t been as much of a “skirt-chaser,” as some fans think. Heck, fans still ‘ship him with females (and males) he’s never been in an official relationship with, like Blaze the cat.
Also, the Archie series was cancelled, and apparently the IDW series has no ‘shipping for Sonic in it. In fact, some fans are actually a li’l upset he’s not being ‘shipped with their favorite female character/s, so even when Archie & IDW stopped ‘shipping Sonic, fans still get angry. (Especially, SonSal fans.) So it’s still lose-lose even when he’s not being ’shipped in a new official comic canon different from Archie.
I know this comment is probably considered old but Archie kind of brought it on themselves when it came to those Sonic comics. They started having Amy hit on Sonic after years of nothing and then they intentionally started a relationship drama between Sonic and… multiple girls. I know there would still be angry fans because of how shipping works but they kind of hit the beehive with a baseball bat.

Yeah, there’s alot of “lose-lose” situations with popular media.
Like for example there are many Sonic fans that want Sonic to be with their favorite female (usually) character, like Amy Rose, Princess Sally Acorn, Mina Mongoose, ect. and complain that the writers of the comics/games/cartoons/ect. don’t make their favorite pairing canon anymore. Then if Sonic so much as stands next to them, the people who dislike said ‘ship, or prefer one of the other ones then go nuts.
Then when Sonic is single, (as mandated by Sega) fans get angry that their ‘ships sank, or that Sega, or the writers aren’t catering to them…
here something interesting.
I at the end of season 4 with rainbow power people were saying thank God will never see this again and yet one of the complaints I saw with the movie was that they didn’t use rainbow power

I when people were whining that they changed the Changeling for toys and are they still with don’t have any toys.
in fact they released toys based on the Old design after the show introduced the new design

Make that “many toys that aren’t in the show.” (Heck, even some new characters take years to get a toy.) Makes it really ironic when people or ex-bronies try to demonize the show for being a “toy commercial.”
It’s especially ironic, when they like shows like Nick’s TMNT, and as much as I love that show, like the ‘80s/‘90s show it’s loaded with one-shot characters who only seem to appear just to promote their action figure. Honestly, I see more TMNT merch’ then MLP merch’ in stores, and nobody ever bashes it, or other series for being “toy-etic.”
(I’m a huuuuge TMNT fan, BTW so I’m not bashing it.)

you could actually make the argument that this show is a bad toy commercial because most of the toy plugs are just sort of there and there are some toys that are not in the show

I don’t know if they were that “unpopular,” as after that episode aired, many fanartists were making “Rainbowfied” forms for other characters, and their O.C.s, as well. There’s even a tag for it here.

While I don’t think they were permanent designs, I do think those were supposed to be permanent super forms for the Mane 6. But the toys getting phased out combined with the unpopularity of how they looked was what led to them getting demoted to a dream sequence and never appearing again after that.

Heck, I some were scared their “Rainbow Power forms” were going to be permanent redesigns, and constantly complaining about that, before it even happened.
I figured they were just tempory super forms, like their Crystalized forms, and I was right. (Both were only on screen briefly in their respected seasons.)
Heck, I back when the brony fanbase was just starting, and Season 1 wasn’t even done airing every episode, some were saying the CMC were “ruining the show.” Then after that it was Cadance & Shining Armor. Then it was Twilicorn. Then it was Equestria Girls/Sunset. Then it was the “Rainbow Power” toy tie-in. (Which was hardly in the show at all.) Then it was Starlight Glimmer. Then it was Flurry Heart.
I’m curious what we’ll see in Season 8 that’s going to “ruin the show foreverz.”

Meh, I don’t take those people seriously at this point. Arguing about how Friendship Is Magic went through seasonal rot got old after season 5 ended.
/mlp/ has been saying they’re out of ideas and the show is ruined since Lauren left the show.
That was 6 years ago now and we’re going into Season 8, the movie happened and Equestria Girls has grown into ab independent concept beyond a series of movies.
And /mlp/ is still saying the same thing. You’re welcome to pitch yourselves overboard, guys. The ride might never end but you can still get off.

I usually try to avoid commercials, and spoilers anyways. It’s more fun when I hardly know anything about the ep’ I’m watching. Plus some of the previews and such spoil some of the best gags. (Like the G3-parody in Season 3.)
