The genes change randomly, yes, but then that’s where the anything but random ‘selection’ takes over. There are a massive number of bees in the world, and in each of those bees mistakes happen in their genetic code. Most are neutral, some are detrimental to the bees ability to survive their current environment, and some help the bees survive their current environment. There are so many isolated pockets of bees around the world, and their numbers are so numerous that there are bond to be mutations that could happen over millions of years. It’s not a hard concept to understand if you understand biology, genetics or even basic logic. Yes, the mutations themselves are slow and gradual, building up from already existing structures, like an || ovipositor || to a stinger, but the end results are far from random. It’s organized chaos.
I really hope you were not denying that evolution is a thing, and were just misinterpreting my words, but if you really do think a well documented scientific theory that has withstood every try to prove it wrong, and only gotten stronger and stronger the more we understand biology and genetics… then be my guest and keep being willfully ignorant. I’m honestly just confused that the only thing you got from my comment is the part that hardly mattered…
I’m feeling that this creature is actually one of those “flying badgers” that have recently been referred to. It would have probably chased the mailpony out of Discord’s pocket dimension, then found itself lost. If I recall correctly, the honey badger is one of the most viscious mammals in real life, and also one of the most short-tempered. If one were crossed with any type of wasp or hornet and made the size of a bear, that would make it an extremely ferocious animal while angry - as well as being resistant to the one weakness that would keep any animal from being a true threat to Ponyville: THE STARE. If this were anything that could be calmed down even temporarily, Fluttershy could stop it from fighting, and have it leave peacefully. A HoneyBadger on the other hoof, would lash out at anything that gets near it, and can’t calm down until it is back home safely. So the only way to deal with it without excessive violence is for Discord to come looking for it to take it back home.

Bees’ ancestors used to use ovipositors to lay eggs in their hosts, but then over time natural selection and random mutation caused their uterus to store venom and instead of ovaries they have organs that make venom, because workers don’t need to lay eggs, and their ovipositor turned into the extremely sharp, barbed stinger that we know and hate today.
Some wasps, which are related to bees as you may know, still use ovipositors and, like a horror movie, stab their prey with it to pretty much orgasm out their eggs into the host. The babies then hatch inside their host, and proceed to eat the poor bug alive. Isn’t nature beautiful? ||
