The comics status as cannon, as of now, are undefined. There have been no official word on it and, as far as I’m aware, there haven’t been any contradictions between the TV and the comics. This might change with the introduction of twilicorn tho.

The show hasn’t explicitly confirmed it but the Apple Family Reunion episode very, very strongly hinted towards that idea; for most people it’s as good as confirmed. The show is unlikely to state it any plainer considering the target audience.
I prefer a nice readable sans-serif typeface myself such as Roboto or Helvetica myself. Although I do like nice serif typefaces such as Century Schoolbook as well.
Fonts all have appropriate and inappropriate uses though. There really is no best font. :)

Licensed material is always a gray area. It gives fans a place to stand on ideas that aren’t talked about in the official show/series, but they can be instantly contradicted and destroyed by said show. It also becomes difficult to discern which licensed materials (gameloft game, etc) are more ‘legitimate’ than others.
tl;dr: They are not ‘canon’, but they are more ‘legitimate’ than pure fan works.
The comic people have said that it is supposed to be canon to the cartoon. I don’t recall hearing the cartoon people say anything.

Huh? The spinoff doesn’t seem to be made by DHX, and we haven’t heard official statements by any Hasbro reps or the writers of FiM or the writers of EG. It’s too early to say how it will work, beyond having minimal impact.
The idea here is, do we want to consider the comics canon? After all, there’s a whole bunch of information the fandom assumes to be true that the show doesn’t confirm (such as Derpy having a thing for muffins, Applejack’s parents are dead, and so forth).
I don’t like to consider them as the same universe. TV Chrysalis needs to be suitable to kids as young as three. IDW Chrysalis kills cute cats just because she can. I like to think that comic books take place in alternate, more badass universe.

That would mean the spinoff is canon, which it’s already confirmed not to be.
The comic books and the spinoff are alternate timelines. The show could, for example, bring Chrysalis back as a villain and not have it involved Wuvlanders or the CMC at all.
