Ponyville is trapped into a time loop where the same day resets and repeats over and over again and only Pinkie Pie is aware of what’s going on. Eventually she goes to Twilight to try figuring out what’s causing the loop and how to break it, but there’s the problem of the loop resetting Twilight’s memories at midnight, so every day Pinkie Pie has to explain and convince her all over again about what’s going on, and there’s not much they can get done before the day ends, Twilight’s memories reset back and Pinkie is forced to start all over again from zero.
Eventually Pinkie Pie reaches a day where Twilight not only believes her but also suggests her to ask for Celestia’s help, except that Celestia is busy and can’t go to Ponyville until the next day- at this point, Pinkie Pie basically says “screw this” and goes to Canterlot to get Celestia herself.
According to Pinkie, it took her over a month of constant tries and loops before she could sack Celestia because Canterlot’s security is too good. Meanwhile, Celestia just played along, assuming Pinkie was taking her to some kind of kidnapping themed party, and assured Twilight that she could have escaped whenever she wanted.
