If you think hard enough, the entirety of Canterlot Castle can be a monster pony too. She’s just incredibly narcoleptic and is asleep most of the time.

Shadow Play was the first season premiere or finale I REALLY got into since like The Cutie Map. It was such a return to the things I love about them: epic animations, big bad-assed monster to fight, fate of the world, and it takes like a massive team up of The Mane Six and the Pillars of Equestria (basically the original Mane Six from thousands of years ago) to put the bugger down :D

Yeah, between DB and Tumblr, I’ve seen quite a few pics and GIFs of characters and things from seasons 6-8 (including the pic you did of the Pony of Shadows), but I don’t actually know much about any of them.
I’ve just decided that he’s part of an entire species of shadow creatures from a dark realm like this onryō-like gal, this nightmare (the image is explicit), and the shadow slime here :D

She says “we”. She’s only one entity (the turn into bats thing is something Luna taught her) but she also learned to talk from Luna. She’s actually a shadow creature from the same dark realm as the Pony of Shadows who got lost in Equestria, and Luna took her in. Offering herself as clothing was her idea though; she likes to be close to Luna :D
Ah, okay. I… actually still haven’t seen anything past season 5 (and the Friendship Games, for the EQG series), so I dunno what being a shadow creature entails exactly in the MLP:FiM universe (aside from being at least somewhat amorphous). But, still, that’s quite interesting to know.
