Well their parents probably taught them how to raise the sun and moon for the first 9 thousand years or so but officially ed on the mantle of celestial keepers once they died and thus begins the reign of Celestia and Luna as the keepers and maintainers of the sun and moon…
As i said before i am sticking with the 10 thousand years age as an estimate until hasbro reveals how old they are and puts an end to the debate once and for all
As for the use of “moons” as a time frame i think its supposed to be lunar phase cycles like each new moon is self explanatory as the beginning of a “moon” as a cycle of orbits
I think it would be ludicrous for Celestia to take well over 8,000 years to get around to her sun talent, and that doesn’t for the unicorns that were regularly raising the sun and losing their powers before her.
(by the by, Celestia and Luna in The Crystalling don’t really imply they were born alicorns)
I think it’s best to assume they’re somewhat close to the same generation Scorpan and Tirek came from, have that be a parallel between them. I mean, why not?
I challenge you to find one instance in the show that gives you a hint she’s that old.
Oh, and “thousands of moons” doesn’t count, because that word is rather nondescript when being used to describe a given time period in this show.

Well there is a problem with going by how long they have been raising the sun and moon… They couldnt have been doing that since birth so the estimate of ten thousand years still is possible and that the two sisters simply inherited the mantle of the celestial keepers from someone else…. Like their parents we have never heard of because they might have been dead for 1,111 years leaving their responsibilities to their two daughters Celestia and Luna… Basically i am sticking with ten thousand years as a ballparkish age estimate until hasbro explicitly states their age and ends this debate once and for all
Considering how Celestia was outright stated in Horse Play by Twilight that it’s “the one-thousand, one-hundred, eleventh year anniversary of when you first raised the sun,” and how Celestia was outright stated to be Star Swirl’s student, no, 10,000 years doesn’t seem to be a good estimation of her age. Google doesn’t always give the correct answer, and the answer you got probably is fanon, because canon hasn’t hinted she’s been around that long.
If she were really around that long, then you’d think her and Luna would’ve been around when Grogar ruled, and have been involved with his defeat, but she’s not so much as mentioned by him.

The earliest flashback we actually see is the defeat of Discordthe defeat of Discord, slightly over a thousand years ago. Even if she “ages super fucking slow” from that point on, that doesn’t mean the same is necessarily true going all the way backwards, especially since she might not have been born an alicorn.

I just googled “how old is princess celestia” and the first answer I got was 10 thousand years… and given how celestia looks EXACTLY the same in every flashback in the show EVER I would assume she ages super fucking slow so 10 thousand doesnt seem that bad of an estimate
Also, I’m not sure where you got the “ten thousand years” number from, the show doesn’t give any information going back further than a millennium, two tops.
But neither of those is the point. the point is, for someone who’s outlived a normal member of their species’s lifespan by several centuries, looking younger than they actually are is not a question of yes or no so much as one of by how much.

uuum I’m pretty sure she is YOUNG for an alicorn… she is in the show about 10 thousand years old and honestly I think if she lives that long she kind of qualifies as a cosmic entity…
